Crochet Along: Week 3

Welcome Back Crochet Along friends! How are your blankets going? I'm moving along well. Still experimenting a little. With my smaller blanket. But all is well. This week's goal, is rows 25-45. That's one more "Bunny Block!" :) This set of bunnies, will be running in the opposite direction.

Don't worry if you didn't make it to row 24. Remember, we're not on a time crunch. We're just working on this, together. This is supposed to be something fun. Not stressful! Just keep that in mind. :)

I got a few e-mails this week. All having to do with the same "issue." The gauge, is just a little off. The chains are a little loose. And the double crochets, are too tight. So when you're looking at your work, it looks a little "messy."

I've worked on other filet blankets before. And I've worked on filet crochet...with thread. Your work, just doesn't look "neat." That is, your chains look too loose. And your double crochets, tootight. The double crochets "pull" at the chains. And the chains just look really loose. It has to do with the tension of your work. You just need to work on, making all your stitches similar, in tension. Don't stress. With yarn, especially a thicker yarn, it'd not as noticeable.

And remember, if you have a question, or concern, please leave Manders or I, a comment. Or send us an e-mail. That's what we're here for! At the end of this week, we're pretty much, halfway done with our blankets! Now that is exciting!!!

Oh Spring!

We've been in Sin City, for a few days now. And I'm feeling more refreshed. More inspired. More myself. Weird how that happens. But I'm going to work with it. :)

The weather has been nice. And warm. We've been performing. And I'm in LOVE with our new costumes! Cole is so talented! And with all of this, I've begun to think of Spring. It's just around the corner! And it's my favorite time of year.

Silently, I've wanted to go shopping. For the last few weeks. To head to my nearest Forever 21. And see what kind of fun items, they have. But, I've been busy. And it just hasn't happened. But this incredible weather, is just begging me, to go buy some new clothes. Like this...

It's hilarious, that I'm in LOVE with this bikini! I don't swim. I don't know how to swim. But I do enjoy, laying out by the pool. When this guy is out there. But not for long. Because, I'm positive that the sun HATES me! No matter what SPF I wear, I turn bright red!

But there's something about Spring, the warm weather, and all the retro clothes, that I've been wearing...that makes me pine for this bikini. Oh seersucker, how I LOVE you!

I LOVE Milo...So Does He

We've been looking, at a lot of furniture, as of late. We have 2 new houses to furnish. And one house, that is still in need, of a few key pieces. It sorta has me stressed out! To the max.

Mostly because, we're ALWAYS on the road. Have little time, to go shopping. And have some pretty different styles. But we do agree on 2 things. One, this man is going to pay for it all. Two, it has to be comfortable!

I've been looking for some more "affordable" pieces. Something local. This man, is just looking for furniture. Insisted that our homes, need to be furnished. ASAP! So we both came to the table. With our plans in hand. And you know what? I LOVE this sofa, that he found!

I'm not sure what it is. But this sofa, just calls my name. It's a little manly. And a little feminine. My favorite part of this sofa, is definitely the legs! This man, LOVES that it's made out of leather.

Purchases like this, make me extra nervous! My current sofa and loveseat, cost a combined $400. New. And on clearance. That's how I roll! While this man, just knows what he wants. And is more than OK, with investing the money. This time, I just might have to side with him. Because I want Milo to come live with us!

A Taste of Yesteryear

This guy and I were talking the other day. About the "Good Old Days." Like either of us, really lived through them. OK, we sorta did. This guy's childhood, happened during the 70s and 80s. Mine was more, the 80s and 90s.

Another thing on our minds, was finding a really cool gift, for this little guy. Something fun. Meaningful. And something that would bring a bit of the past, back to life. We're just like that. We like retro and vintage type of things. We enjoy learning about the past. So I did a quick search. And found a few of our favorites. :)

Do you remember this little guy? Being that I spent a lot of time in the mountains, I remember him well. My grandparents lived in the mountains. And I spent so much time with them! So seeing Woodsy, was very common. This guy remembers Woodsy too! As he and his family, spent a lot of time, hunting and fishing, while he was growing up. :)

The same can be said for Smokey the Bear. I remember going to the State Fair, every year, as I was growing up. And all I ever wanted to do, was go see Smokey, and eat a turkey leg! :) Smokey would also come to our school, and teach us all about Fire Safety. Yes, we saw a lot of him in the mountains too! In fact, this guy and I, went to go see his memorial. :)

And lastly, are all these books. I didn't have any of these brand new. None! I don't know if they came before I did. But that's how it happened. And oh, I just LOVE books! I've always had a ton of books. But I did have some of these books. OK, a nice collection. I don't know where they came from. Perhaps, they were from my older siblings.

Yesterday, this guy and I, we went shopping. At the most AMAZING antique, and second hand shops. Oh hello! The southwest has some amazing ones. I just wish, that we would have had more free time to shop. We found lots of pieces, for our homes. This guy added to his Vinyl Collection. I added to my own Cookbook Collection. And we picked up some gifts.

It was a day, dedicated to "Yesteryear." We "rescued" a lot of the past. And hope to bring new life to it. Including a nice stack of books, for this guy's nieces and nephew. Something that we hope, brings them many years of happiness. Yes, it was a nice trip, down "Memory Lane!"

Why Wait?

Doll Face I think about this song, every time we come out here. Vegas right? Drive-thru weddings. Why wait? If we were any other couple, we'd have sealed the deal, years ago. But we're us. No tin a hurry. Living life on our terms.

Gorgeous lady, just so ya know, I love ya. Don't ever doubt that. Whether it's on a piece of paper or not. Know that we've got a lifetime together. When your ready, Pretty Lady, so am I! Vegas or not. Your Guy

Crochet Along: Some Tips

On Sunday, I had mentioned that I was starting a second blanket. I started it. Stopped, and looked. I was using 4 ply yarn, and a size H hook. But it seemed small. I found myself at a stop. I wanted a slightly larger blanket. One that I could cuddle up under. So I took it apart, and added another bunny block across. This means that you must start with a chain 185. The adjustment will give 5 blocks across. And I'm thinking my finished blanket is going to be 5X6.

Manders also mentioned that she was making a baby blanket. And she didn't like the original size of the pattern. She called me. And I gave her these new adjustments. She's using baby weight yarn, and a size G hook. And according to Manders, this makes for a blanket, that is "crib" size.

But that also got time thinking. I wanted to make a baby blanket. One to add to a growing collection. That I'm donating, to the NICU, where I work. I knew that the original was slightly, too large. Because those babies are itty bitty!

So I started playing with the pattern. I thought. 2 blocks, with more double crochets in between. Making a larger border. But I didn't like it. So I decided to go with, 3 blocks across. You start with a chain 113. Then continue with the pattern. I haven't decided yet, if I'm going to make it 3X3, or 3X4. We'll just have to wait and see. In case you were wondering, I'm using Baby Bernat Sport Yarn, in white. And a G hook.

I told you, that we are here to help out! I just wanted to share a few adjustments, in case you were interested. A few of you were. Because I received, about 10 e-mails, on Monday. I hope this helps. Personally, I think that the odd number of bunnies, is more pleasing to the eye. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Hopefully, this helps with your goal this week. See you Sunday!

Lots of Birthday Parties!!!

A few of my friends, are a bit stressed at the moment. You see Manders is planning 2 birthday parties, for her kids. So is Sals. Between them, these 4 birthday parties, are for 6 kids. Including 2 sets of twins!!! Have I lost you yet?

I hope not! But both of my friends, are incredibly stressed out. I know! Will the kiddos remember these birthday parties, years from now? Probably not. But the parents will. And honestly, at this point, that's what matters. These 2 amazing women, want to give their kids, something special.

So they started with planning out the dates. Because all 6 kids, are born within a week, of one another. So 2 parties, for 2 weekends. And then there were themes. Manders struggled. What could she do? Last year, she had the cutest party, for her twins! Now she's stressed. Will her order come in on time? Oh, and we're getting ready to go to Sin City to work. Poor woman!

Sals on the other hand, had this part, in the bag. Maribel would have a princess party of some sort. We knew this months ago! Now we know, it's going to be "Pinkalicious." And the twins, will have a Sesame Street themed event. Cakes were ordered. So were pinatas. And I've been doing a lot of sewing.

But I had to laugh. When both of my friends sent me this picture. Could I make them? Did I really want to make them? Would I be here, for the parties? Lots of questions...

Well, we have our first speed bump. One weekend, we'll be in TN. The next, in CA. Ugh! Thank goodness, both of my Goddaughters' parties, are on the Saturday of the weekend. I can make those! Between, I'm so exited to make these! How fun. And super easy. I've actually thought of a few ideas to add.

We have a plan. I'll make these cupcakes, on the Saturday morning. Both weeks. Why? Because they are needed, at the Sunday parties. Both weekends! I can do this. Between, Manders and Sals, have both bought everything we'll need.

And this morning, I picked up the supplies, from my friends. The cupcake liners are adorable! The sprinkles are fun. And when I silently panicked, that my friends wanted the same cupcakes, I didn't say anything. Now that I have the supplies, I know that the cupcakes will look different!

Funny how life changes. A few years ago, we stressed about gigs. Schedules. Flights. Music. And costumes. These days, it's about birthday parties. Cupcakes. And the most perfect birthday present! To be honest, I enjoy these days, a heck of a lot more!

Happy Birthday Daniella!

Dear Daniella,

Happy Birthday! Sweet girl, you are getting so big! I'm so happy, that I get to be part of your life. That I get to watch you grow. It's been such a blessing, to be a part of your life. To be able to play dress up, "doctor" your babies, and read all those books that you love!

I still think about the very first time, I got to meet you. Such a precious baby. Who opened her little eyes, when I first held, and talked to you. It melted my heart. And from that day forward, I always knew, that you would hold, a very special place in my heart.

There are certain days, that you just know, will change your life forever. 3 years ago, today, I knew that it was one of those days. Getting to be a part of your life, has been such a blessing. And so rewarding. I'm glad, that I get to be here. To help shape the person you are becoming.

Time is just flying by. A few years ago, your Mommy and me, were helping you toddle around. These days, you're making me peanut butter sammies. Giving me lots of kisses. And showing me, how you tie your shoes. Sweet girl, you are amazing!

Happy 3rd Birthday! Sweet girl, I can't wait to get back, so that we can celebrate. I see lots of cupcakes, pizza, and presents in our near future. Love you lots!

Love,
Your Nana♥

Fun Jewelry

It's been one of those days. Family issues. House problems. Overwhelmed with studying. I never got in touch with a friend. And I just didn't feel well. Ugh! So I took a deep breath. And had a long talk with this guy. Which ALWAYS makes me feel better! Seriously!

Sometimes real life can get you down. Family issues, weigh on you. Make you feel, like you are carrying the weight of the world, on your shoulders. And sometimes, you just need a distraction from all of that!

Earlier, this guy went to get us dinner. He insisted, that he was in charge of dinner tonight. Honestly, it made me feel good. So I had about an hour, to do a little searching on the internet. And I came up with a few things, that I really like. :)

First up, is this cuff. It's so interesting. There's something about the shape. And the metal. I really enjoy the "handmade" feel of this piece too. The only thing, that I don't like, is that I can't find the source...

How about this bracelet? First of all, it's purple. My favorite color! And the design is nice. Simple. Something you could wear every single day. I like the knot detail. It just adds a nice bit of interest to the piece. Oh, and I've been wanting a leather bracelet. But this bracelet, well, it just seems more interesting.

And lastly, we come to this necklace. I'm sorta in love with it. :) The idea of a chalkboard necklace, it just intrigues me. What else can I say? I've never seen anything like it.

And that's my little bit of "internet" shopping. Even if I didn't buy anything. And I fell asleep. It distracted me, and made me relax a bit. This guy let me take a long nap. And tonight, we enjoyed a quiet dinner at home. Catching up on our favorite shows. Let me tell you, it was a great distraction from our "real life." ♥

Tina's Crusty Cornbread

From what I hear, there was a time, when this guy and his grandma, used to have weekly dinners. She'd cook up a feast. Just for him. Then they'd make an evening out of catching up, and eating. I'm not sure when it stopped. Or why. I just think, it was such a nice tradition!

For almost 4 years now, My Guy and I have been dating. We don't have the weekly dinners, with Grandma. :( But we do try, and see his Grandma, at least a few times a month. If you are a regular reader, then you know, we travel a lot. A LOT! And our plate is always full! But we carve out the time.

Grandma and I rotate the cooking. If she really wants some Mexican food, I cook. If I'm dying for fried chicken, she cooks. We swap recipes. Cookbooks. And of course, food! I'll even admit it here. Sometimes when My Guy is working, I go to his Grandma's house. To have dinner. While he works! :)

A couple of weeks ago, Grandma called me. She was making a feast. And wanted me to go over. Someone was working. So I went alone. And it was such a fun night! We just caught up on things. Nothing fancy. Just 2 chattin' ladies. Oh, and I got a present. This cookbook! Which I've been putting to great use!

Fast forward to this week. We've decided to stay in the SW. Between all this work. I'm performing Thursday-Sunday. In Sin City. My Guy is also working here this weekend. But we did have a day or so, to just run off and get lost.

We did just that. At my house. It was a little funny. We "roughed" it a bit. As there is no hot water. And we can't use the kitchen sinks, or washer. But we did have 1 running bathroom. And a kitchen. So I cooked a yummy meal. A hardy beef stew. And made cornbread. From this week's Gooseberry Patch Free Recipe of the Week. Which is also from this cookbook!

Tina's Crusty Cornbread

1/4 c. butter
1 c. plain yellow cornmeal
1/2 c. stone-ground yellow cornmeal
2 t. baking powder
1 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
8-oz. container sour cream
3/4 c. sour milk or buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 c. finely shredded Cheddar cheese

Add butter to an 8"x8" baking pan or a 9" cast-iron skillet. Place in a 425-degree oven 5 to 6 minutes, rotating pan to coat the sides with butter. In a large bowl, combine remaining ingredients; stir until well combined and glossy. Pour batter into pan. Bake at 425 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, or until top is golden. Cut into squares or wedges; serve warm. Makes 8 servings

I wasn't sure what to think. My Guy is from the South. And there are certain things, that you just don't mess with. Like fried chicken. And cornbread. But I was feeling adventurous. And I made this recipe.

OMG! It was delicious! I don't know, what exactly makes this different. But there was something different about it. It was so good! I will admit it. I ate one bowl of stew. And almost all the corn bread! By myself. Yes, I did share with this guy. And he liked it too! ♥

Feels Like Spring

It's feeling more and more like Spring, around here. But my love of scarves, is still going strong. And I want to make myself, some Spring inspired scarves. Something fun and colorful. My friend sent me this picture, just yesterday. And I'm getting inspired!

This picture gives me lots of ideas. I'd LOVE to make a scarf like this. With Spring colors. Wouldn't this be fun to wear? With a pair of white pants, and a fun colored tank. Yes, I think I need to sit down today, and figure this out. ♥

Beautiful!

Have you ever seen something, and instantly known, that you want it? I have! Unfortunately, I'm the type of person, that goes home to think about it. And by the time I decide what to do, it's usually been sold. Sad!

But when you are a "crafter," sometimes you can recreate those same things. It also gets bad, when you are constantly saving pictures. To later recreate. I literally have 10,000 pictures saved. In one folder. To make certain projects. That's where this picture came from.

I don't even remember, where I found this. But I knew instantly, that I wanted to make a few of these, beautiful pillows. For our breakfast nook at home. I want to find some bright colors. For the actual pillow. And I'm going to stick with white, for the roses. Oh, I'm so excited to start this project!

Crochet Along: Week 2

Welcome Back! It's Week 2 of our Crochet Along. And this week, we begin our projects. That means, we're crocheting! But first, how did your shopping go? Did you find everything you need? Were you like me? Sitting in the middle of the yarn aisle, trying to decide, which yarn you wanted. That was really me!

For Week 2, our goal is to begin our blankets. And work to row 24. That will complete the first block. Or what we're going to refer to as, a "Bunny Block." Which means, by Saturday, we should, have some cute bunnies to admire!

For me, I have to admit something. I started crocheting my blanket already! I started last week. Because I didn't have another project to work on. And we were on the road. I'm making a baby blanket, in a soft yellow color. Last Monday, I almost finished the first "Bunny Block." I know!

But don't fear. I'm starting a second one. In a pretty yellow, 4 ply yarn. I have no clue what the color is! Because the label, is not on, this skein of yarn. But it's more of a muted color. I was tempted to buy Red Heart's Bright Yellow. It's so pretty! But I'm making this for our living room. And the more muted color, goes better with our decor.

I know that Manders started her blanket as well. But only got 3 or 4 rows done. She was trying to work ahead. Just a bit. Because she is in the middle, of planning 2 birthday parties. And didn't want to fall behind. I told you, the Crochet Along, is just about an outline. More of a support system.

This week should be fun. And interesting. I want to get both of my blankets, to row 24. By Saturday! I'm positive that I can have it done. I'm really interested in seeing, what the size difference is going to be. Should be interesting.

Don't forget, if you have any problems or questions, please contact us. Or leave a comment. Maybe someone else is struggling too. We're a supportive group. Ready to help, wherever we can! Happy Crocheting!

Let It Be

Recently, I feel like many of my posts, have been "heavy." My heart has been heavy. Broken. My soul, has been in need of repair. I've been carrying so much! And need to just breathe.

Much of it, has been because of my brother. Who just makes me feel so uneasy. He rubs me, the wrong way. I can't trust him. He's just so sly. Doing the worst things, under the radar. And no one else, really seems to bring it up. But it bothers me. So much!

In so many ways, he's destroyed our family. He's still doing it. Making life miserable, for so many! And I'm not sure, what I should do. But it bothers me. It bothers me, that he steals from everyone. That he lies. That he makes a fool, out of people. Then hides from it. Doesn't own up, to the things that he does.

It bothers me, that he hurts the people that I love, so much! That he makes up excuses for it. That he brings his problems, to the rest of us. Expecting us, to make them go away. He's just evil. And I don't know what to do about it. I hate to bring it up here. But it's been on my mind. And it needs to get out!

And then, I've been missing so many people. That have gone before me. To meet our Maker. Really missing our time together. The things we shared. Time that we shared. Just being together. I've been so emotional lately!

Also, I've been so worried about my Dad. Hoping that his health improves. That things get easier for him. And my Mom. I just worry a lot, about the 2 of them. I wish that I could do more for them. Carry more of the burdens. Make things better, and easier, for them.

But I know, that I can't really, do much more. I do a lot already. I ALWAYS put my family first. I've sacrificed so much for them. But at some point, we all need to carry our own burdens. We all have our crosses to bare. The hardships, that we need to deal with. On our own. I know this. But it's still hard!

I know, that I can't change things.
That I can't make everyone's pain go away. Even if I try. I know that sometimes, you just need to "Let It Be." God knows the "Master Plan." He knows why we must "suffer." Why we have certain crosses to bare. Why some people "get away with it," while others have to "face" their problems!

Sometimes, we have to go though "rough" patches. To value the good times. I know this. In my brain, I know this. But in my heart, I wish I could make all those tough things, go away. Sometimes, we just need to learn that we need to "Let It Be."

Because there is no changing life. Sometimes things, just need to work themselves out. And sometimes, we need to let go of certain things. And certain people. That can be the hardest. But I'm learning how to do it.

"Let It Be." If it was meant to be, it will work itself out. But we can't sit here, and stress ourselves out, about everything. I know this. But I need to start really believing it! Sometimes, we just can't fix things. Sometimes people don't want to change. And sometimes, we just need to go live our lives. Without worrying about the world. I'm learning how to just "Let It Be."

Simply Wow!

My friend Cole, e-mailed me, this picture yesterday. Just look at it! This dress is made out of old magazines! Can you imagine? Wow!

Cole has been making my costumes, for years now. And this, just made me smile. And laugh. I told Cole, that we really need to add one of these, to the mix. Wouldn't that be fun? Maybe not too useful, and durable. But I think it would be a fun piece to showcase. :)

By the way, we're performing in Sin City next week. Craziness is our schedule! But it's always a lot of fun! I enjoy catching up with my friends. And making other people happy. We have 15 shows, in less than a week! On top of that, this guy is working there all weekend. Oh, it's going to be crazy! But I'm so excited, to see my new costumes! Hopefully something fun, just like this, will be in the mix! ♥

Bibs & Booties

I'm not sure, if I've blogged about this pattern before. Honestly, I'm not sure. But I do know something. In the last few years, a handful of times, this has been the Free Pattern of the Day, at Free Crochet.

And I'm just in LOVE with this pattern! The very first time I seen it, I downloaded it. And waited for the perfect time, to crochet it. I've made it a few times since. And I think, any crocheter, would LOVE IT! So go download it. Right away! And make it, for the perfect baby in your life. ♥

I Miss Him So!

The last few days, have been rather emotional. I'm not going to lie. I've been trying to keep it together. More because I know that My Guy needed to focus on work. But today, it all seems to be bubbling over the top.

Saturday was my Dad's birthday. I got to have dinner with my parents, on Friday night. It was nice. To just enjoy some time together. To see and hear, a wonderful Mariachi. It was quick, but much needed. Since my Dad got sick in December 2010, I've really cherished every moment with him.

On top of that, my cousin had her baby girl. Early Monday morning. And now, they are a little worried about her health. So they are running a few tests. Please keep them in your prayers. We'd really appreciate that. And honestly, I can't wait to meet, the new sweet baby.

But honestly, I think what's bothering me most is, my Uncle. Sunday marked seven years, since his passing. He was my best friend. ALWAYS had me laughing. We did so much together. He taught me so much. Over the years, he went from being my Uncle, to my best friend.

I still remember, the night that I got the news. I had been away. Teaching a music conference at Disney World. That night, we had performed. And had this AMAZING and fun dinner with friends. It had been a good night. :)

Then I realized, that my phone was in my violin case. I had 20+ missed calls. When I went through them, they were all from my parents. I worried. Immediately, I wondered how my Dad was. I thought about it. It was almost 1AM. Which meant, close to 11PM at my parents' house.

But I couldn't wait anymore. I needed to know what was going on. I found a small room, and sat down. I made the call. And I immediately knew, that something was wrong. My Dad's voice was shaking. He told me, that my Uncle had past away, in his sleep.

This was so shocking! He had been in the hospital. For something completely unrelated, to what he past away from. My parents had just seen him. Right before he was released, from the hospital. They had joked around. Because it was my Dad's birthday.

But when he went home, it was just his time. I remember, not knowing what to do. Being across the country. Obligated to this job. My friends rallied around me. Assured me, that they could handle the next few days. And that they'd get me home.

At the time, a friend was living with me. So I called her. In the middle of the night. And she packed a bag for me. Made sure that my car was full of gas. While this guy got me a plane ticket home.

I flew home. Had another friend, pick me up from the airport. Drove me, the hour, to my home. And I drove, for the next 3 hours. Hoping, that I'd make it in time for the service.

My cousin broke my heart. She was devastated! Kept telling me, that she should have been better to him. That I knew her pain. Because I was so close to him. I didn't know what to say. Or do. I was numb.

We prayed.
People talked about my Uncle. I could see him from afar. But I didn't have the guts, to go up to his casket. We went back to my parents' house. Knowing that the next morning, we'd say our final goodbyes.

I spent that night writing. Writing a letter to my Uncle. This amazing man. That ALWAYS put others before himself. With this GIANT heart. Made of gold. I cried. For the first time, I was alone with my thoughts. And it finally hit me. He was gone.

The next morning, I got up early. Got dressed. I'd be playing for the funeral. And I wasn't sure, just how I was going to do it. I told my parents, that I'd meet them at the church. And I left.

Quietly, I made my way into the church. Violin in one hand. My letter in the other. And I walked down that aisle, to my Uncle. Where I said my final goodbye. Placed my letter in his casket. And realized for the first time, this would be the last time I'd see him.

It pulled at my heart.
The following 2 hours, rushed by. I didn't feel like, I was really there. More of floating above, the services. I remember leaving the church, for the cemetery. I remember seeing the casket go down. The dirt covering it up. I remember, going to my aunt's house. Changing my clothes. Saying my goodbyes.

I drove 3 hours to my home. Had a friend drive me, another hour to the airport. And then, took a plane ride back to Florida. I'm still not sure, how I managed the next week. But I did.

Since that day, I've felt this emptiness in my heart. A place that I'm positive, will always be empty. With each passing year, it gets harder. I know that it should get easier. But for me, it gets harder. Maybe because I miss my Uncle so much.

Or maybe because, I'm remembering less and less about him. On a recent trip home, I stopped, to visit his grave. And my Auntie's grave. I feel a sense of peace, when I'm near them. Of being "whole" again. Knowing that we're close, to one another.

I hope, that I never forget, the important things. What made my Uncle, well my Uncle. His generosity. His caring heart. His great sense of humor! I want to pass on his memory. To the generations, that didn't get to meet him. I want for people, to be inspired by him. To know, that he made the world, a truly better place!

BLT Tuna Sandwiches

This Guy has to work tonight. And his sister and I, well we made some plans. To do some much needed catching up! I just might want to do some baby cuddling too!

I wanted to make something yummy. But something that was super quick! And portable. Since I'm cooking it at home, but taking it to K's house. By request of the new momma, she wanted something a little light. That's when I remembered this recipe. This week's Gooseberry Patch Free Recipe of the Week.

BLT Tuna Sandwiches

7-oz. pkg. white tuna, drained
3 T. bacon bits
1/4 head lettuce, shredded
1 tomato, diced
1/2 to 1 c. mayonnaise
salt and pepper to taste
8 slices multi-grain bread, toasted
Garnish: dill pickle spears

Combine tuna, bacon, lettuce and tomato with enough mayonnaise to achieve desired consistency. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pile tuna mixture high on 4 bread slices. Top with remaining bread and serve with pickle spears. Makes 4 sandwiches.

This is what we're going to have for dinner tonight. With a little salad. And of course, some dessert! I'm thinking a trifle of some sort. I've actually made the tuna mix. But with fresh bacon. Not bacon bits. You know, the container type.

I just put the 6 slices of bacon in the oven. And when it was crispy, I took it out, and chopped it up. OK, not all 6 slices went in. 2 were for my lunch...a BLT. :) And now, we have a large bowl of this yummy tuna salad sitting in the fridge. I just think, mayo type of salads, need a little time to sit. And get yummy!

By the way, this cookbook, is on it's way to our house. I just couldn't help myself. We're always on the run. And there are so many great recipes in here. For quick meals! I can't wait to get cooking!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

The weather in the Sunshine State is always, and I mean ALWAYS, changing. And pretty quickly. It actually reminds me a lot, of my home state. But, the rain pretty much moved in yesterday. And won't leave! We're ready for a little sunshine. OK, A LOT of sunshine!

The last few days have been a little crazy. My Guy was supposed to work yesterday. But the rain has delayed that. And as of this morning, things are not looking good right now. As much as I LOVE this beautiful state, we're ready to head home. PLEASE RAIN...STOP!!!

Like I said, it rained all afternoon and evening yesterday. And we needed something to fill up our time. We called a couple of friends. But this guy, had already decided to take My Bestie out to dinner. And Brother B, was going to watch Baby C.

What did that leave for My Guy and me to do? Eat an entire pot of food! I made "The Lady & Sons Beef Vegetable Soup." I also baked a big 'ol loaf of crusty bread. We might have also enjoyed some homemade carmel corn, a little cobbler, and some ice cream. Watched 8 hours of Clint Eastwood movies. :) Oh ya! Baby it was a great night. Just a little something we like to do.

Not the way, we had planned our night. But what can you do? Mother Nature has sent us rain. And essentially told us, it's time to slow down. Even for just one night. Honestly, I couldn't think of a better way, to spend my Sunday night. With the man I LOVE. Cuddling, and enjoying some of our favorite treats. ♥

Crochet Along: Week 1

Welcome to Week 1 of our Crochet Along! Manders and I, are super excited about this! We received just under 30 e-mails. Definitely made us smile! And we're looking forward to the next 6 weeks, of crochet time! If you are still interested, you can still contact us. Leave us a comment, on either of our blogs, or e-mails. :)

Week 1 is super easy! And hopefully a lot of fun! All you have to do is, print off the pattern. And do a little shopping. My favorite part! You are going to need 35 oz of 4 ply yarn. And a size H crochet hook.

Right now, I'm sort of having a mini issue. Do I make this for Easter? And use the 4 ply yarn. Or do I make this for a baby? Using "baby weight" yarn? And the colors. Oh the colors! Can you tell what I spend most of my projects doing? Trying to make decisions about yarn. I'm leaning towards a bright yellow. In a "Baby Yarn." But it will all depend on, what I can find at the stores.

I was thinking about this step. And I have a little note for you. I make a similar blanket. All the time! For baby girls. The filet pattern is of hearts. And I use baby weight yarn. With a size G hook. If you are considering this route, I would buy a large ball of yarn. I usually use Lion Brand Baby, or Bernat Baby Sport. One large skein, is more than enough!

What are your ideas? I think a bright yellow, 4 ply yarn, would also be nice. Something bright and fun. Potentially for a toddler. Or a more muted color, for an Easter throw. I've also seen a pretty lavender color, that I'm sorta in love with! Oh the decisions.

Dear Dad,

Today is your birthday. Happy Birthday! I hope that you know this, I LOVE you! With all of my heart. The last 14 months, have really made me appreciate you, so much more! It's been a tough time. But I time, that I wouldn't change. Because it's the time, when I've gotten to know you better. When I've gotten closer to you. And when I've been able to give back to you. Take care of you. And be there for you.

I feel like, my prayers were answered.
When God gave us more time. And I'm ALWAYS grateful for that! For getting more time with you. For helping you, to get stronger. To get healthy again. I'll ALWAYS be grateful for that!

Call Me Crazy...

But I just LOVE this top! I've been pretty lazy, fashion wise, as of late. Wearing lots and lots of leggings. With tons of over sized tops. Not a throw back to the 1980s, but you know what I mean. I really enjoy wearing fun, and fashionable clothes. But sometimes, you just need something comfy. This top might just be a little much, but I like it. I wonder, if I can make one of my own... ♥

Farmgirl Chicken & Dumplings

This has been one of those crazy weeks! And by that, I mean I'm exhausted, and I have so many things left to do. All this traveling, has finally gotten to me. On top of that, the weather has been so nutty! So Sunday, I wanted to just "Veg Out." You know what I mean?

Well, this guy had to work. Not all day. But he had to work. And My Bestie, she had some plans with this guy. For later in the evening. What was I going to do? I figured I'd make a nice dinner for My Guy and I. And that's just what I did. Well, after a long recipe search. And a little hunting around our pantry. And what did I make? This week's Gooseberry Patch Free Recipe of the Week. :)

Farmgirl Chicken & Dumplings

1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cubed
16-oz. pkg. frozen mixed vegetables
1 onion, diced
3 cups low-sodium chicken broth, divided
1-1/2 c. buttermilk biscuit baking mix

Combine chicken, vegetables and onion in a slow cooker. Set aside 1/2 cup plus one tablespoon broth; pour remaining broth into slow cooker. Cover and cook on high setting for 2 hours. Stir biscuit mix with reserved broth until moistened. Drop by tablespoonfuls over hot chicken and vegetables. Cover and cook on high setting for 10 minutes; uncover. Cook for an additional 20 minutes, until dumplings are done. Serves 4 to 6.

And darn, this is so yummy! And super easy to make! Ridiculously easy to be honest! When My Guy left for work, I started this little project. With my search, and prep, I had it cooking in less than an hour. Then I cuddled up with our dogs, my crochet project, and a few good movies. By the time my Mr. got home, dinner was ready. With a little peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream for dessert.

This is one of those recipes, that I'm going to make many times over. It was that good! And like I said, super easy! My Guy told me, that this is one of his favorite dinners, that I've made. And that's saying a lot! He's definitely got his favorites. Ones that he asks for, over and over. I'm thinking, this is going to be one of them. :)

I honestly can't believe how easy this was to make, and how tasty it was. This could easily be one of my "go-to" meals, when I have a long night of studying ahead. Oh, and I also bought this cookbook. I can't wait to actually get it. And see what kind of yummy recipes are inside!

Crochet Inspiration

Recently, I came across this picture. Actually, Manders e-mailed it to me. :) And I'm in love with it! This pillow is so different. And I want to make a few for our Guest Bedroom. That happens to have a color palette of lavender, silver, and white. Yes, I think this pillow would look amazing in there! And I even have one perfect, vintage, silver button. Perfect for the center. Now does anyone know where to find this pattern?

A Woman Like You

My buddies and I were shooting the....well ya know. It got me thinking. Just how lucky I am. To have found, a woman like ya. Doll Face, my life has never been the same. Not since the day, I first laid eyes on ya. I hope ya know that. From that day forward, you've had all my attention. My love. Everything I got.

I don't always say things. Heck, I don't always know what to say. But know this. You're my whole world. Ya make life better. Just bein' ya. I couldn't ask for more. There is nothing more. Not when you're around. 'Cause honestly, I don't know what I'd do. If I'd never met a woman like you. Your Guy
