Icy Day Cowl

There have been 2 things, running through my head lately. It's getting cold. As in, I need a jacket, and scarf cold. And the Craft Fair, that my Mom and I are selling at, is less than a month away. Two things, that are putting me into "high gear."

I took a little time, yesterday, to search for some patterns. That would help in both of these areas. What did I come up with? A cute cowl.

I honestly adore this. Not necessarily in these colors. But I adore this cowl! I've started one for me. In grey. And I'm finding, that it's simple. As in, I can make a few of these, for the upcoming Craft Fair. Maybe in some more "Festive Colors." I might just spend my evening crocheting. And maybe watching a few movies, with My Love. ♥

Stunning Shawl: Week 2

Hi everyone! Welcome to "Week 2" of our "Crochet Along!" This is the week, we actually crochet. That is exciting, all by itself!

Our goal for this week, is going to be to work rows 1-9. That means we're starting our Stunning Shawl. And working a second "section." Not too bad. And this will allow us all to ease into our projects. I know school has started for most kids/people. This should be an achievable goal for the week.



I got a few questions this week. All about yarn. Individually, I answered the questions. But I thought I'd post something about it here. I was asked if you could use the "One Pounder," from Lion Brand. As in the "Baby Yarn." Yes, you can. It will make your shawl a little more "delicate." Probably a little smaller, and lighter as well. You might also have to go down a size in hook. Just to make your work look neat.

And I've gotten a few comments about Red Heart's large skeins of "Super Sport." That would also be a great way to go. Then you wouldn't have to hide extra threads, from connecting the 2 skeins of yarn.

Stunning Shawl: Week 1

Welcome Back! It's "Week 1" of our little "Crochet Along." My Mom and I are impressed by all the interest!!! Looks like everyone likes the Stunning Shawl. As of this morning, we have 59 people signed up. Yay!!!

This week, we're starting off easy. You just need to print out this pattern. And buy your supplies. You'll need a size H (5.5mm) hook. And 2 skeins of your favorite yarn. About 14 oz.



I went with a new yarn. I have no clue what it's called. I know it's by Red Heart. But the wrappers were all taken off of the yarn. It's not the "regular" Red Heart "Super Sport." Something new, that Wal-Mart had. And it's super soft! I bought 2 skeins of plum.

Crochet Along: Stunning Shawl

Do you remember when I told you about a new "Crochet Along?" Well, my Mom and I have been debating a pattern, for about a month now. I know! But there are so many choices. We thought about something with thread. Because she's awesome at it! Me, not so much!

Then we thought about an amigurumi project. You know, because I've now got her addicted to the stuff! Or maybe something for Fall. Maybe something to decorate with. Something for our homes.

But there was this one pattern, that we just kept going back to. One that was calling us. One that we couldn't resist. That would be, Red Heart's Stunning Shawl!

This is just going to be a fun little group, all working on the same project. A cute shawl, that should come in handy this Fall. If you're like us, you're still battle the high 90s, and random triple digits. But soon enough, it will be cool. The perfect weather for this shawl.

Feels Like Spring

It's feeling more and more like Spring, around here. But my love of scarves, is still going strong. And I want to make myself, some Spring inspired scarves. Something fun and colorful. My friend sent me this picture, just yesterday. And I'm getting inspired!



This picture gives me lots of ideas. I'd LOVE to make a scarf like this. With Spring colors. Wouldn't this be fun to wear? With a pair of white pants, and a fun colored tank. Yes, I think I need to sit down today, and figure this out. ♥

I Want One Too!

Last year, I made a bunch of these Neckwarmers. For all of my good friends. Everyone got their favorite colors. Everyone loved theirs. And I kept saying, I'm going to make me one too! Guess what? It never happened. A year later, I'm still without a neckwarmer. So I decided, today is the day. I'm going to make me one. While watching some fabulous Christmas movie! What are you doing today? ♥

Really Big...Really Fun!

How are your holiday preparations going? I'm pretty sure, that I've bought and wrapped 90% of the presents, on my list. :O) I've baked some cookies, made some candy, and tackled some Christmas crafts. Our Christmas tree is up. And our cards are sent out. I'm thinking, this is success!

We are taking this as s good sign. And we're heading out, to explore a nearby, tiny mountain town. The town, where my good friend Manders, grew up. I'm pretty darn excited! They have some cute shops there. I just might have to get me something. :O)

Well, last night, after wrapping lots of presents, I decided to relax. And then, I was browsing some crochet websites. When I stumbled on this cute cowl. On Bernat's website. The "Really Big."



I happened to have some gorgeous yarn. And while My Guy and I talked in front of the fire, I whipped this up. I can't find my camera, so you'll have to look at Bernat's picture. Honestly, this is such a warm cowl! Perfect for a snowy adventure.

A Few Years in the Making

A few years ago, I found this patten. It was one of those free flyers. The ones that they hang up next to the yarn, at the craft store. I pulled 2. One for me. One for my Mom. I really wanted to make it. Heck, I even bought the yarn. Both the camouflage, and a pretty cranberry color.

I don't know what happened. Maybe I lost the pattern. Or life got busy. But it didn't get made. I used the yarn on other projects. And well, I forgot all about it! Until today. When I was going to crochet something else. I pulled out the pattern book, and this pattern fell out. :O)



I dug around, and found some yarn. Guess what I'll be up to today? Yup, making this neckwarmer. Maybe a camouflage one needs to be made too! You know, for our upcoming hunting trip. ♥

Mittens and Scarf

It's super chilly out! And I'm counting down the days, until we get some snow. I just LOVE snow! And playing in the snow. Bundling up is so much fun. And it got me thinking, I need a new pattern. How about this pattern from Bernat? Softee Chunky Mittens and Scarf.



I'm also thinking, this could be a GREAT treasure to add, to my Mom and I's stash. Because we're going to be selling, at our Church's Christmas Craft Fair. In 2 weeks! I guess I should get started then. :O) But honestly, I'm LOVING this scarf! ♥

Red Fridays and a Scarf

Have you ever heard about Red Fridays? It's something that My Guy and I have been supporters of. My Guy works closely with the military. And I've had many family members, that have served in the military. Red Fridays are something that we hold close to our hearts. Yes, we're always praying for our military.

I was talking to My Guy the other day. And I was telling him how I wanted to do something. For the families. I know that I wear red every single Friday. But I wanted to show my love, support, and patriotism. Then it hit me. I could make some scarves. For the spouses, that are waiting at home.

I wanted to make something. Something that felt personal. And made with love. So I started my hunt. And I found this pattern. By Bernat. Appropriately named, Red Friday Scarf. I'm on a mission, to make as many as possible. If you'd like to help, send me an e-mail, or leave me a comment.



Why is this cause so close to my heart? Like I said, I come from a military family. 2 of my brothers were in the military, I have 2 cousins now serving, my grandpa served, and many, many of my uncles were in the military. Our family has watched our loved ones go off to war. We've unfortunately lost some loved ones. And also celebrated others, after they retired from the military. Not to mention friends of mine. I still don't know how Jelly did it all those years. Or how Cassie still does it.

But I'm very proud of my country. Of our military. And if this little gesture, can help even one person, it is well worth it! Like I said, if you are interested in helping, let me know. I think we can make a big difference. My entire life, I've lived near Military Bases. And I know that these people, sacrifice so much for us. Every single day of the year! It's time to give something back! ♥

Last Minute Scarf

Fall is here! Thank goodness! I've been waiting for this season, since June. :O) And with Fall, comes my need for warm and cozy goodness! I've been cooking and baking. And, pulling out all my boots, sweaters, and scarves. Oh, I just LOVE Fall!

It got me thinking though, I need some more scarves. OK, maybe I don't NEED more scarves. But I'd LOVE to have a few more. If you hadn't figured it out by now, scarves are my absolute favorite! I have a nice collection going on.

But I wanted something homemade. Does it shock you, that I don't make myself anything. Seriously! I rarely sit down, and crochet myself something. So I went on a hunt. For some crochet patterns. That's when I came across this beauty...



Yes, the "Last Minute Scarf," is now on the top of my list. I just need to buy some Bernat Mosaic yarn. Don't you just love the colors? Heck, I have about 4 other projects, that this yarn would be perfect for!

This is such a great pattern. Perfect for Fall! And something new, to jazz up my Fall outfits. Oh, I can't wait. My perfect night would involve some chocolate, a good movie, and a little crochet time! ♥

My Favorite!

I know that it's still early. But I've been thinking about "Wintery" types of things. Like clothing. And it got me thinking about my favorite crochet scarf pattern. Bernat's Softee Chunky Woman's Hat & Scarf Set. For the last 4 years, I've been making this scarf...



I don't know what it is. I just adore this scarf! Is it crazy that I've made 3, in the last day? I'm trying to get started on my Christmas gifts. And honestly, this is so relaxing to make. Although, to be honest, I've never made the hat. I should try one. ♥

Sunday Sweets

I'm currently on a flight to my hometown. Why? For a Craft Fair! My Mom and I always get 2 tables. It's held at our church. And since the first year, we've always gone. We do it more for the fun, then the actually financial side of it. And to support our church.

But I do have to say, in the last 3 or 4 years, we've made a pretty good amount of money. And that never hurts during this time of year. So we have totes and totes of of crafts. We make them all year long, and just keep adding to our inventory. I also happen to have 2 suitcases with me. Loaded with things I've made over the last few weeks. So I'm pretty excited about today.

I'm a little sad that I will be missing my Family Reunion though. It's a somewhat small one on my Dad's side of the family. It was last minute. Mostly because one of my Dad's cousins, is really sick. And they don't expect her to make it past the winter. In years past, we've had much larger reunions, during the summer. But this was just too important to pass up. So I've agreed to man the Craft Fair tables alone. So that my parents can go to the Family Reunion. Yes, it's that important. In fact, had we not already paid for our tables, my Mom and I would have skipped the Craft Fair altogether this year.

But I suppose that's life. And there's not much else you can do. So I'm sitting here. Flying home. During the only real break I get from performing. But it's important. And sacrifices need to be made. It's all part of life. But I'm determined to have a good day. Oh, I may or may not be browsing Etsy...



I'm quite in love with this Cowl by Yarn Plus Yarn. The shop seems to be out at the moment. But I'm quite in love. I'm thinking a cranberry colored one would be perfect for winter. And at $25, you honestly can't pass it by.

I've noticed since I was first diagnosed, and told that I have to be careful health wise, that I really have stocked up on winter accessories. I've always had a love affair with scarves. But since my diagnosis, I've really fallen hard for winter accessories. It might just be my way of trying to protect myself.

Either way, I see a purchase in my near future. And a very fun day ahead. I hope everyone has a great Sunday! You know, Sunday really is my favorite day of the week! ♥
