60 Days...and a Little Wishing...

Just a little while ago, I got off the phone. With a good friend of mine. One that I hadn't talked to, in way too long!!! Say over a month...too long. If we're being honest here, it's almost been 2 years, since we've seen one another.

This is the same friend, that I used to meet for lunch...oh, 4 times a week. We'd literally spend 5 hours chatting. Meet up for lunch, that would take us well into dinner. That friend. One of my friends, that I'm desperately missing right now.

The funny thing that stuck in my brain...was Christmas. Don't panic or anything. But it's only 60 days until Christmas. I know!!! Where has the time gone? And my friend, she wants to know...just what I want. Um, even I was stumped by that question.

For the most part, I'm super easy to shop for! Buy me a scarf, and I'm your BFF. Get me some candles, I'm over the moon. A pair of chandelier earrings, I might just jump up and down.

But my friend was looking for something more specific. I thought, and thought. Then I remembered what I had told this guy, just the other day. Anything from Stella & Dot, makes me happy! Heck, I sold it for years. Cause you know, someone had to pay for medical school. :)

I thought I'd make it even easier for my friends. Pick out a few favorites. And you know, get them started. Because, Christmas is just 60 days away. I'm not panicking yet. Are you? So let's get started...

First up, Serenity Stone Drops. In jade please. :) $49 for the pair. And I'd just love them so! You know me and my earrings.

Keeping with earring theme, how about these Charlize Teardrop Earrings. Priced at $34. I just adore the various shades of blue. :)

Next, well there are 2 things in this picture. The Soar Necklace, for $59. Yes, this is my favorite of the bunch. But don't forget about the Tree of Life Necklace. For $69. Another darling!

I'd adore the Chelsea Necklace. In gold. For $59. Isn't it just lovely? You could layer it with other necklaces. Or wear it alone.

One of the mot gorgeous necklaces that I've seen, and amazing values, is the Glint Flower CZ Necklace. $39 for years of happiness! Don't you think???

Another simple necklace that I just adore, is the Aura Coin Drop Necklace. Come on, it's gorgeous! And just $49. Even I'm tempted to buy this one. Because I could see myself wearing it, every single single day!!!

Another favorite of mine, is this Serenity Small Stone Pendent. It reminds me of my birthstone. And is just $49. Honestly, this necklace would make a nice "every day" necklace too. :)

Something a little more understated, Odette Infinity Necklace. For $39. I just adore the mix "of colors."

Along those same lines, is the Together Forever Necklace. For $59. I adore the mix of metals. The different sizes, also makes this necklace interesting. Oh, I think I'm in love!!!

But really, we NEED to talk about the Infinity Charm Necklace. A little pricey at $79. But it is adorable!!!

The last necklace, that I'll be talking about is, the With Love Necklace. For $69. I like it's simplicity. But amazing meaning. This is high on my list!!!

How about a a few bracelets? Over the last few months, I've really fallen in love with bracelets. Any kind really. But here are a few of my favorites. :)

How about something for $19? This Courage Bracelet is one of my favorites. I just adore the style. And the little charm.

The Hope Bracelet is one of my favorites. Really it is! It's $32. But my favorite quality, is the rose gold! I've been a fan of rose gold, since I was a wee one!!!

The Elizabeth Bracelet is just plain fun!!! With a little bit of sass. For $29. Don't you just love it too? I do!

I can't help but be a fan of the Luna Wrap Bracelet. For $89. I think this would be a nice piece to own. Something that goes with a lot of other jewelry. But the real star here, is the Sole Bracelet. For $39. I don't know what it is, I just adore it!!!

Don't think I'm a spoiled brat. Or that I'm begging my friend for anything. She asked me a question. And it got me thinking. Of a few things, that I would welcome into my life.

But in reality, I'd adore a scarf from Wal-Mart, or a pair of earrings from Target. Heck, a nice lunch would be nice too! Although, if this Mr. is reading...these earrings, this necklace, or this one, or this one, or even this bracelet...they'd love living with us too!!! ♥

A Little Confession...

As I'm laying in bed, I'm starting to realize something. A little shocking and surprising to me. I've developed a bit of an addiction. To Knott's cookies...

It doesn't matter the flavor. Just that they are Knott's. When I was in high school, I used to buy these. A few times a week. From the vending machines. It was definitely a treat. One that I looked forward to. All the time! There was just something about that buttery cookie. And that sweet jam. Makes a girl smile, just thinking about it.

Well, the other day, I was super busy. And had no time to eat. It was 3PM, and I hadn't had a thing to eat! When I ran to the gas station, and then had to run in to get a receipt, I took a quick look around. I was starving! So I picked up a lemonade and some nuts. Then I turned around, to see these cookies staring at me!

I couldn't help myself. I bought 5 bags. I'm not proud to say this, but I ate all 5 bags, within days! Days I tell you! Then I had to make a quick run to Costco. And I just thought, "They have to have my cookies here." After loading up on fruit, veggies, and paper goods...I headed to the snacks. And found my favorite cookies!

That leads us to tonight. For about 2 weeks now, I've gone to bed with a book...and some cookies. Yes, I know! But I can't help myself. I've added another 1/2 mile to my daily run. And I skip my mid-morning snack. Just for this sweet treat!

My Guy, thinks I'm hilarious! But I really can't help myself. And I've promised myself, after I finish this box...I will not buy anymore. Because I can't control myself. Maybe in 6 months...I'll buy myself some more. But no sooner! Because honestly, I could gain 100 lbs very easily!!! ♥

Summertime Favorite

I have to put these out there. I'm definitely what you would call a "Girly, Girl." I LOVE makeup, clothes, shoes, jewelry, accessories. All that good stuff. But I've never really felt like I was a gorgeous woman.

Most of this might be, because I cheered when I was younger. And was surrounded by gorgeous girls. My Mom didn't really wear makeup. So I was on my own there. My hair has always been a "Thorn in My Side." That sort of thing.

But as I've gotten older, I've really begun to enjoy these things much more. A lot of this probably has something to do with this lady, and this lady. Oh, and because I've become a performer now. And it's my "job" to dress up, and look nice.

Well, as much as I love all these things, in the "Heat of Summer," I'm not a fan! Not at all! In fact, for the last few weeks, I've been sporting leggings, and some sort of long and flowy tank top. Oh, and those ballet flats. My hair is up and out of my face. Makeup is at a bare minimum.

But I don't think it's a "Bad Thing." Heck no! It leaves more time to enjoy life. And I feel so much "lighter." Heck, I'm pretty sure, my skin and hair are thanking me right now. But the one thing that I've always really gotten into, during the Summer, is nail color!

Yes, it's my one thing. It's definitely a "Summer Thing." I paint my nails 2-3 times a week. I probably buy 4 nail polishes a week! It's so addictive. Because it's my way of adding color, to my outfit. And honestly, painted nails are s cute!

Well, in the Summer I usually gravitate towards 2 colors. White or Essie's Turks & Caicos. I know! But they remind me of Summer. I sport the white for 3 or 4 weeks. Then add that gorgeous turquoise color for a week or so.

Last week, My Bestie needed to make a quick run to the store. She was all out of chocolate! And we all know what happens when Hills doesn't have chocolate! :) So we headed to a local CVS. She went looking for candy, and ice cream. I got caught up by this gorgeous display of L'Oreal nail polish!

And what in the world did I find? Some of the most gorgeous colors! Colors that all the "expensive brands" are carrying right now. I quickly picked 4, got my favorite magazines, and a couple of cards. Yes, I know! But it was some last minute stuff that I needed, before we left on vacation. :)

This gorgeous color is called, "Club Prive." This incredibly creamy, aqua color. Immediately, I was in LOVE!!! When we got back, I realized I'd forgotten Turks & Caicos at home. Good thing I picked this baby up!

2 things you should know. Maybe 3. This color is almost exactly the same as Essie's Turks & Caicos. But it only cost $5! It's very similar to China Glaze's For Audrey. Except For Audrey is a bit more blue. Unless you're like me, you probably wouldn't notice this. Oh, and the consistency of the polish, is AMAZING!!!

So we've been on the water, and the beach, for days now! My nails have been painted since last Friday. No base coat. No top coat. This polish is amazing!!! It might just be my new Summertime favorite! :) I can't wait to get back, to try my other 3 colors!!! ♥

Sweet Summer Eats

I don't know about you, but when I think about summer, I think about fruit. Growing up, we had wild black berry bushes, a quince tree, and countless cherry trees. I would literally spend hours outside, eating straight from the bushes and trees! June was always marked with an endless supply of cherries!

As I got older, I'd use those cherries to bake with. I'd mix them with fresh peaches. That came from this guy's family's Ranch. Cherry and peach cobbler. Nothing said summer like that cobbler, with vanilla ice cream! But honestly, eating them off the tree, was the best!!!

Secondly, blueberries and lemons, we're also a big part of my summer. I'd go to the Farmers' Market with Enzo's grandma. We always bought blueberries, squeezed a little lemon juice on them, and ate them as we shopped. I still think of this combination, when summer rolls around. So much so, I've been hunting for blueberry and lemon recipes lately. :)

And of course, there is water. 10 months of the year, I drink cucumber water. I take a cucumber and thinly slice it. Add it to some ice water. AMAZING!!! Life changing actually. :) But in June and July, I prefer lemons in water. Sliced, not wedges. To me, they taste different. Crazy, I know!

There are countless other Summer fruits that I LOVE. Fruit that grew at this guy's house. Or at his family's Ranch. We grew up, eating right off the trees! And for me, nothing marks June, more than fresh local fruit. What's your favorite Summer fruit?

My First Love

I don't know if I've ever mentioned this here, I'm a HUGE baseball fan. HUGE folks! Growing up, me and this guy, would go to games ALL. THE. TIME!!! Actually, this guy, played since he was like 3 years old. And I was his biggest cheerleader, until he graduated from high school. And moved across the country...

This is what we did. With all our friends. There was a minor league team, in our hometown. We'd go to a game, weekly. Then as teenagers, we'd take an annual trip to LA. To see the Dodgers play. Because everyone we knew, liked the Dodgers.

But not me and this guy. Nope! We liked the Red Sox. Actually, I like the Mets, and the Red Sox. I know, I'm bad! But the Red Sox are our team. And since this guy has been living in Boston for the last 14 years...it's become a tradition, to head to Fenway Park!

Yup, I was a high school sophomore, the very first time, I got to go to the most amazing ball park. Seriously, I was in LOVE!!! And not just with this guy. Who at the time, I was dating. Heck no! I was in LOVE with this stadium. :)

And through the years, my best friend and I, have collected some amazing t-shirts, watched more games than I can tell you about, and spent some good quality time at Fenway. Heck, for Christmas, My Love bought us each a brick. To celebrate 100 years of Fenway!!! We got seats last year, for our birthdays!!! :)

With that said, My Love planned an amazing trip to Boston. Between his schedule and mine, it was a little crazy! But we planned it. We'd see 3 games. Just me and him. In heaven. With hotdogs, my Red Sox, and dear 'ol Monster Green!

Well, things didn't really work out. Life threw us a few curve balls. My life is up in the air. And my family needs me. Our trip was postponed. And now, I'm starting to realize, that this guy, is becoming a rather big Red Sox fan too!

At the moment, we're lining up our schedules again. Trying to find the perfect week, to head to Boston. Which ironically, at least 2 days a week, I work in Boston. But I still haven't gotten to Fenway. And let me tell you, that big 'ol stadium is calling my name! Until then, I'm so grateful for televised MLB. And at home "Red Sox" parties. With hotdogs, my favorite team, and my favorite guy! ♥

Soft Taco Casserole

The last few weeks, have just been nuts! I'm exhausted. But grateful. And so happy, that my Mr. was able to come out here, for a few days. With that, we've just been taking life, a little slower. At least yesterday and today.

With that, I don't really feel like cooking. Not the big meals, that this guy has gotten used to. So I went to Gooseberry Patch for some ideas. And this week's Recipe of the Week, is just what I was looking for. A tasty, but easy, casserole.

Soft Taco Casserole

1 lb. ground beef, browned and drained
10-3/4 oz. can tomato soup
1 c. salsa
1/2 c. milk
8-1/2 oz. can peas & carrots, drained
7 6-inch corn tortillas, cut into 1-inch squares
1-1/2 t. chili powder
1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese, divided

Combine all ingredients except 1/2 cup cheese; spread in a 2-quart casserole dish sprayed with non-stick vegetable spray. Cover and bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes, or until hot. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; let stand until cheese melts. Makes 4 servings.

It's funny. When I was little, my Auntie and Grandma, both made tacos with mixed veggies. It's not something you see a lot. But it is tasty! This recipe, just reminded me of their tacos. Yum! Maybe I might try whipping up a batch of those, next week.

Right now, we have our casserole in the oven. I've also made a salad. And this guy, is in charge of dessert. It has been one emotional week. And I'm so grateful, for this time to just sit and relax. I know, we tend to forget to do that. And you know what, it's really important. It helps to re-energize a person. Making life a whole lot happier!

Little Rain Drops

I've ALWAYS been a big fan of rain. I'm giving the credit to my grandparents. As I spent years and years, with them. For many summers, I'd spend 2 months with them. In the mountains. They had a tin roof. And when the summer rains rolled into the mountains, there was nothing better then sitting on their porch. Listening to the steady rain falling. Watching, as it cleaned the Earth.

I still feel like that. When the rain rolls in, I feel like I'm 5 years old again. Sitting on that front porch. Watching as God cleanses the world. The only way, that really wipes away the filth. I'm drawn to rain. Forget rainy nights. I'll spend hours, just listening to the rain. Feeling a certain "peace" come over me.

Lately, rains have been seldom. Far between. Something that I've craved more and more. I just feel like my own spirit, needs some cleansing. And there is nothing like a good rain, that cleans a person's soul. And since we haven't had rain, I've searched out some rain inspired treats. :)

This rain cloud necklace, is so incredible! It's delicate. Unexpected. And so fun! Now if I could just find the seller...

What about this fun and colorful rain cloud? So fun! Another treat, that I'd LOVE to own! The colorful raindrops, just make me smile!!!

And this precious picture makes me smile! I can't find a source for this one either. :( But this is something, that I can try to replicate. Oh yes! I just need to head out for a canvas. I can't wait, to have a little fun painting like this.

It's funny, how much I like rain, rain clouds, rain drops...anything of that sort! Have you seen anything similar? I'd LOVE to hear all about it! Because I'm so serious, about purchasing some "rain" inspire items. ♥

Gap Creek

Can I be honest with you? I read a lot! Always have. Probably always will. And by a lot, I mean at least a book a day. 5 newspapers. Sometimes even a magazine. It doesn't hurt, that I'm a fast reader.

I've got a nice collection of books. But to be honest, I take advantage of our local library. I read, request, and love many of their books. And when I find, that I've checked out a book 5+ times, I actually go out and buy it.

But as a kid, my parents spoiled me rotten. With books. Not with toys, clothes, or that sort of thing. But books, they didn't mind. Those school book orders, I'd buy every single book, every single week! Then when the Book Fair rolled into school, I'd get whatever I wanted. I belonged to a ton of Book Clubs. And spent most of my life, reading.

Heck, even trips to the Price Club (now COSTCO) got me a new book. I'd get to pick out 1 book a month, from there. One book that I bought, was Gap Creek. Somehow, it was the one book, that I NEVER read. Why? I have no idea!

While packing last week, I ran across it. Some 12+ years later, I finally picked up Gap Creek. And a plane ride later, I was in LOVE! What a cute book!!! Something right up my alley.

The story is about a young couple. Who struggle in the beginning of their marriage. Living during a tough time. With an elderly man. Who dies, and leaves their lives hanging by a thread. With no money, little food, and an uncertain future. Tragedy marks their first year. But they make it past their 1st anniversary. Stronger, wiser, and more determined. This is definitely a good read! Something that will leave you, with a smile on your face!

A Taste of Yesteryear

This guy and I were talking the other day. About the "Good Old Days." Like either of us, really lived through them. OK, we sorta did. This guy's childhood, happened during the 70s and 80s. Mine was more, the 80s and 90s.

Another thing on our minds, was finding a really cool gift, for this little guy. Something fun. Meaningful. And something that would bring a bit of the past, back to life. We're just like that. We like retro and vintage type of things. We enjoy learning about the past. So I did a quick search. And found a few of our favorites. :)

Do you remember this little guy? Being that I spent a lot of time in the mountains, I remember him well. My grandparents lived in the mountains. And I spent so much time with them! So seeing Woodsy, was very common. This guy remembers Woodsy too! As he and his family, spent a lot of time, hunting and fishing, while he was growing up. :)

The same can be said for Smokey the Bear. I remember going to the State Fair, every year, as I was growing up. And all I ever wanted to do, was go see Smokey, and eat a turkey leg! :) Smokey would also come to our school, and teach us all about Fire Safety. Yes, we saw a lot of him in the mountains too! In fact, this guy and I, went to go see his memorial. :)

And lastly, are all these books. I didn't have any of these brand new. None! I don't know if they came before I did. But that's how it happened. And oh, I just LOVE books! I've always had a ton of books. But I did have some of these books. OK, a nice collection. I don't know where they came from. Perhaps, they were from my older siblings.

Yesterday, this guy and I, we went shopping. At the most AMAZING antique, and second hand shops. Oh hello! The southwest has some amazing ones. I just wish, that we would have had more free time to shop. We found lots of pieces, for our homes. This guy added to his Vinyl Collection. I added to my own Cookbook Collection. And we picked up some gifts.

It was a day, dedicated to "Yesteryear." We "rescued" a lot of the past. And hope to bring new life to it. Including a nice stack of books, for this guy's nieces and nephew. Something that we hope, brings them many years of happiness. Yes, it was a nice trip, down "Memory Lane!"

I Miss Him So!

The last few days, have been rather emotional. I'm not going to lie. I've been trying to keep it together. More because I know that My Guy needed to focus on work. But today, it all seems to be bubbling over the top.

Saturday was my Dad's birthday. I got to have dinner with my parents, on Friday night. It was nice. To just enjoy some time together. To see and hear, a wonderful Mariachi. It was quick, but much needed. Since my Dad got sick in December 2010, I've really cherished every moment with him.

On top of that, my cousin had her baby girl. Early Monday morning. And now, they are a little worried about her health. So they are running a few tests. Please keep them in your prayers. We'd really appreciate that. And honestly, I can't wait to meet, the new sweet baby.

But honestly, I think what's bothering me most is, my Uncle. Sunday marked seven years, since his passing. He was my best friend. ALWAYS had me laughing. We did so much together. He taught me so much. Over the years, he went from being my Uncle, to my best friend.

I still remember, the night that I got the news. I had been away. Teaching a music conference at Disney World. That night, we had performed. And had this AMAZING and fun dinner with friends. It had been a good night. :)

Then I realized, that my phone was in my violin case. I had 20+ missed calls. When I went through them, they were all from my parents. I worried. Immediately, I wondered how my Dad was. I thought about it. It was almost 1AM. Which meant, close to 11PM at my parents' house.

But I couldn't wait anymore. I needed to know what was going on. I found a small room, and sat down. I made the call. And I immediately knew, that something was wrong. My Dad's voice was shaking. He told me, that my Uncle had past away, in his sleep.

This was so shocking! He had been in the hospital. For something completely unrelated, to what he past away from. My parents had just seen him. Right before he was released, from the hospital. They had joked around. Because it was my Dad's birthday.

But when he went home, it was just his time. I remember, not knowing what to do. Being across the country. Obligated to this job. My friends rallied around me. Assured me, that they could handle the next few days. And that they'd get me home.

At the time, a friend was living with me. So I called her. In the middle of the night. And she packed a bag for me. Made sure that my car was full of gas. While this guy got me a plane ticket home.

I flew home. Had another friend, pick me up from the airport. Drove me, the hour, to my home. And I drove, for the next 3 hours. Hoping, that I'd make it in time for the service.

My cousin broke my heart. She was devastated! Kept telling me, that she should have been better to him. That I knew her pain. Because I was so close to him. I didn't know what to say. Or do. I was numb.

We prayed.
People talked about my Uncle. I could see him from afar. But I didn't have the guts, to go up to his casket. We went back to my parents' house. Knowing that the next morning, we'd say our final goodbyes.

I spent that night writing. Writing a letter to my Uncle. This amazing man. That ALWAYS put others before himself. With this GIANT heart. Made of gold. I cried. For the first time, I was alone with my thoughts. And it finally hit me. He was gone.

The next morning, I got up early. Got dressed. I'd be playing for the funeral. And I wasn't sure, just how I was going to do it. I told my parents, that I'd meet them at the church. And I left.

Quietly, I made my way into the church. Violin in one hand. My letter in the other. And I walked down that aisle, to my Uncle. Where I said my final goodbye. Placed my letter in his casket. And realized for the first time, this would be the last time I'd see him.

It pulled at my heart.
The following 2 hours, rushed by. I didn't feel like, I was really there. More of floating above, the services. I remember leaving the church, for the cemetery. I remember seeing the casket go down. The dirt covering it up. I remember, going to my aunt's house. Changing my clothes. Saying my goodbyes.

I drove 3 hours to my home. Had a friend drive me, another hour to the airport. And then, took a plane ride back to Florida. I'm still not sure, how I managed the next week. But I did.

Since that day, I've felt this emptiness in my heart. A place that I'm positive, will always be empty. With each passing year, it gets harder. I know that it should get easier. But for me, it gets harder. Maybe because I miss my Uncle so much.

Or maybe because, I'm remembering less and less about him. On a recent trip home, I stopped, to visit his grave. And my Auntie's grave. I feel a sense of peace, when I'm near them. Of being "whole" again. Knowing that we're close, to one another.

I hope, that I never forget, the important things. What made my Uncle, well my Uncle. His generosity. His caring heart. His great sense of humor! I want to pass on his memory. To the generations, that didn't get to meet him. I want for people, to be inspired by him. To know, that he made the world, a truly better place!

Green Stuff...

When I was young, my family was, well for the lack of a better word, obsessed with green jell-O and Kool-Aid. Yes, they were! My grandma only bought green Kool-Aid. Ever! It was so odd.

Green jell-O, well it was delish! And a staple for the holidays. With a little bit of whipped cream. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not!

And that green Kool-Aid, we drank it by the gallons. No lie! Especially in summer. I can still remember, sitting on my grandparents porch, drinking green Kool-Aid.

Ya, my family favored the green, or lime flavored goods. Can I admit it? When I'm feeling homesick, I search out green Kool-Aid and jell-O.

OK, and that's were this gets funny. I never understood why my grandma, used to have to send green Kool-Aid and jell-O, to my auntie. Who at the time, lived in California. Because in my home state, it was sold everywhere! Now I know. Depending on what part of the country we're in, you can't find these green treats. What's up with that? Do companies really do that? Only sell certain flavors of products, in certain areas. I'm curious...

Maria la del Barrio

Maria la del Barrio was a telenovela, that I watched years ago, with my grandma. She was so into it. And because I was there, I got sucked in too! Telenovelas are a mini version, of an American Soap Opera. It's the Latin American version. And they're usually a bit more racy. And a heck of a lot shorter! A telenovela usually runs for a few months. And tells the entire story.

This particular telenovela starred Thalia. You know, the Mexican Megastar! But that was before I knew about Thalia. I was probably only 12 when I watched this. And I really enjoyed it. Honestly, watching telenovelas, made me feel a lot more comfortable with my Spanish.

Anyways, recently I was on eBay. Searching for some Disney cartoons. I HATE how Disney only releases movies for a short time. But that rant is for a whole other post. I was looking for Beauty and the Beast. I'll admit it, it's my favorite.

Somehow, I came across the series Maria la del Barrio. I thought about it. Looked at the price. Wondered if I'd really watch it. Thought about the time my grandma and I spent watching it. And I bought it! I just couldn't help myself. :)

So I've had this guy watching it with me. Although he's not fluent in Spanish, he's been enjoying it. We laugh hysterically at all the silliness. Yes, it's that hilarious! But I do enjoy it. And it brings back so many memories! ♥

Made Me Smile

In this picture, I recognize so much! Funny, huh? Especially since it's not my picture. I was doing an online search for children's hangers. This is one of the pictures that came up. With a broken link.

But I swear, I had those hangers. But mine were pink. I'm almost positive, my parents still have them in my childhood bedroom. And those dresses, I remember those dresses. I had one like that light yellow one. And the pink one underneath it. No lie!

It's funny how things work out. Immediately after I seen this picture, I called my Mom. And we talked about it. My parents kept so much from my childhood. I'm positive they have many of my dresses. Yes, I was that girl. That a billion dresses, with matching shoes and socks! ♥

Kegger in the Desert...

Before I explain that title, let me just say this, it's been 10 years! Well, almost. 10 years since I walked across that stage, claimed my diploma, and entered the "real world." A bit scary...

I knew that my reunion was coming up. You see, my niece is graduating this year. From my old high school. And we have been talking about a lot of the things, that I did in high school. About graduation and prom. And of course, her graduation party...and going away to college.

It's brought back a lot of memories. Not all good. But definitely not all bad. I remember that day. My friends and I promised to stay close. Even though most of us were moving away. Honestly, I didn't see many of them past that day. Nowadays, I'm lucky to see any of them. Sad, but true.

There were a handful of graduation parties that I went to. I seen a handful of my friends. And right before I moved, I had lunch with some of my closest friends. Yes, some of my friends attended the same college as me. But honestly, I only saw them a handful of times. Some of these people, I had seen every single day, in high school. During our time in college, it may have 3 or 4 times. In total!

My friends that remained in my hometown, well we tried. Not well. But we tried. I e-mailed. We called. But life just took us in different directions. I met some incredible people in college. I went down a different road. Found true blue, soul mate type friends. And all those high school friends...well they became more of memories.

I tried to stay connected on MySpace. I did well...for a short while. I tried e-mail again. I'm just too busy to really stay connected. I don't have hours to pour into Facebook. But I have reconnected with a handful of people. It's been ages, since I've actually seen anyone from high school.

The other night, I told my Mr. that I wanted to search out some info, on my graduating class. I got on the Facebook account for his business. I know...but whatever. I wanted to do a little "spying." After an hour or so, I had found a good amount of my graduating class. And then...our Facebook page for our reunion.

There was a survey. And talk about getting together. Sometime between this Summer and Fall. I thought, after the weekend, I'll come back and send that e-mail. I had received another e-mail from a previously close friend. Telling me about the reunion. And potentially getting together for lunch.

But when I came back to that Facebook page, I was a little disgusted. Most of my graduating class wanted a "Kegger in the Desert." Typical. I'm sure I graduated with a bunch of bafoons. No lie! Wasn't it bad enough, that they would tear up the desert, when we were in high school? Now, they want to celebrate our 10 years with getting wasted out there again...

Funny how previous to this discovery, I had considered going to my reunion. Not for the reunion itself. But to get back in touch, with a handful of friends. The ones that I miss. You know, like my "big brother" friend. Or my friend who was supposed to be my freshman roomie. The one friend that made me laugh so incredibly hard...all the time! Those friends. Maybe a cheerleader or two. Maybe someone that I didn't really talk to in high school. But because of social media, we'd connected.

But now, I'm pretty sure that I'm not going. I work 100 hours a week. Every week! Plus I travel with my Mr. It's hard to take time off. It's tough to not be on the road, supporting my Mr. But I was going to do it. Until I realized, these people have not changed. Not one bit!

10 years may have past, but they're the same people. The ones that I had very little in common with, let's be real, that's almost 95% of my graduating class! I was always the girl in the background anyway. It didn't matter that I was a cheerleader...or in every extra curricular activity. It didn't matter. I was the ONLY senior left out of the Senior video. How ironic.

I tutored more athletes than I can remember. Helped them pass classes to play sports. I decorated for all those school dances. Um, I only went to 2. Because my friends dragged me to them. I was always around, but never really seen. And I'm positive, I don't want to go back there. I'm positive, no one will miss me.

Do I wish that I had stayed in touch with some friends? Yes. Funny thing is, the people that I would have never thought about staying in touch with, some athletes, are the ones that I see more often. They've been to some of my shows. We've worked various events together. Funny how that worked out...

Others, well, I don't know. I think I would rather get together with older classes. Friends that were a year or two older. Funny how I would rather go to Enzo's reunion, than my own. I was closer to those people. Not the ones I went to school with.

Maybe it's my insecurities talking. Maybe I'm crazy. But I never felt like I "belonged" there. Never. I was the awkward cheerleader. The student that sat in the back of the class. Rarely ever talked. The cheerleader that never really "fit in." I did a lot of the "background" work. Planning, working, studying. I was the dork, geek, the weirdo.

I never dated anyone from my high school. OK, so there was that Guy...I had a MAJOR crush on him. Funny how all these years later, he admitted, that he had wanted to ask me to Prom. But was scared. Funny! Now we e-mail each other, at least once a week. Crazy how that works out.

Like I said, I didn't go to school dances. I really wasn't close to people at my high school. I didn't want a date. I almost kissed the ground, when some of my friends, were getting married on my Homecoming. Great excuse to miss the dance! I was dragged and tricked into Winter Ball. It was miserable. I can't believe I went. But I had a BLAST at Prom! Ironically, a bunch of my friends and I went. Together. Just a bunch of girls. Having a great time!

Not all of high school was miserable. There were fun trips. Great memories with some of the cheerleaders. Fun nights of hanging out. Great friends. Lots of laughter. OK, so I may have threatened our AD to take my name off of the ballet for Homecoming. And I might have wanted to kill that one athlete. But it was a fun time.

I'm just not at the point of "wanting" to go back. To dealing with a couple of 100 people, that didn't notice me. Or just were flat out mean. The few, as in 10 or so, people that I miss...I hope there is another way to get in touch with them. I'd love to reconnect with them. The rest, well, they're better left in the past. Right were they belong. ♥

Let Me Down Easy

This song happens to remind me of My Guy. Before we "officially" started dating, we'd talk on the phone all the time. I'm going to confess here, we'd talk for hours at a time. :) And he'd always end the conversation with, "If I fall, will ya let me down easy?"

As time past, I learned that he "fell" pretty early on. As in the night we first met. And he wanted to ask me out. But he knew I was dating someone else. So he just waited. And waited. Like a good southern gentleman.

I know, it's only been 2 days, since I last seen him. But I miss My Guy. Every single time, I hear this song, it makes me think of him. And I can't wait, to get back to him. Yes, I'm admitting that here. So instead of him being the vulnerable one, I'm now that vulnerable person. But I wouldn't want it any other way. Now if I could just get this airplane to take off. I'd be one happy lady.

What Do I Say? What Can I Do? I Feel Deflated...

It's crazy. Today, is someone's birthday. Someone that was, once very special to me. A close friend. Heck, I thought of her as a sister. We were that close...

Then one day, things instantly changed. No real explanation. No warning. No clue. It just ended. As quickly as we had become friends. It was over. Final.

It still seems so weird. It's been nearly 3 years. I don't feel any better about it. It was 1 message on MySpace. It ended it all. Crazy how that happens. I still feel such a sense of shock. I still grab for the phone, to call her. Or want to send her an e-mail. Or just want to talk to her.

I've seen her 2 or 3 times since. And we've never spoken. Never done much of anything. But look at each other. I still wonder how that happened. How such a good friend, could just, I don't know. Walk away? Push me away? How did we let it come to this? I'm not sure...

But I do, still think about her. I have for a while. Then today, I woke up and realized, that it's her birthday. How crazy is that? It's her birthday!

I want to call her.
Tell her that she is amazing. Wish her the best. But how do I do that? Does she still live in the same place? Does she ever check MySpace? Because I know I don't. Does she still have the same e-mail? I don't know...

But here we are. One small disagreement later. There we are. Not talking. Not communicating in anyway. But I miss my friend. "Kindred Spirits" don't come along often. A miscommunication, a mistaken identity, one bad day. This is where we are. I miss her. "Little G." I miss her laugh. Her "old school" way of life. Most of all, I miss my friend...Happy Birthday Little G!

Capturing Memories

Isn't it crazy, how quickly technology changes? How fast life is moving forward? Yet, how so many people, love and adore, things from our past.

Let's take pictures and cameras, for example. I personally HATE having my picture taken. ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!!! But I like getting lost, in old pictures. Of recalling those memories, from my past. I adore it! And whenever I think of old pictures, I think of my grandparents' old Polaroid. The one that my Nanie would grab, and snap pictures with. Pictures of us kids, my Tatie, or even their countless animals. Fun times!

Recently, this guy and I, picked up 3 such Polaroid cameras. And we've been having a blast with them! There's just something, about watching a Polaroid develop. Almost instantly. It's amazing.

And when we were talking about our little cameras, to friends and family, all of a sudden...EVERYONE wanted one! It just makes me smile. :) How we all want a piece of the past.

Between, Happy Birthday Anna Marie! I hope you have a truly amazing day! We're going to have to grab lunch tomorrow. And do a little shopping! Maybe even capture some memories on my new best friend...my Polaroid. ♥

Joe...

Oh Joe! This was the relationship that really made me grow up. The one that defined how I looked at men afterward. The one I really never saw coming. The relationship that taught me how to set limits.

In December 2003, my parents went out of town. They'd left for Thanksgiving that year too. I'd spent that Thanksgiving alone. Well, with a good friend and 1 of my sisters. I made us dinner. And we just hung out. My parents were gone. With friends. They were on a trip. And failed to tell me beforehand. I found out the day before Thanksgiving. As I sat in their porch calling them.

Christmas happened the same way that year. And I was feeling bummed about Sancho. Something felt final and over between us. So I worked. My parents were gone. And I was working. Taking any gigs I could get. Freezing in the streets, as we played for different gigs. Yes, at 10PM, you'd find us playing for church events. Walking between the church and various homes. We had so many gigs! Then Joe called. He had some jobs for me. And I took them.

Well, we worked on Christmas Eve. It didn't bother me. I had no plans. And as it turned out, neither did he. So we hung out. And to my surprise, he bought me a Christmas present. Unusual. But it was a nice thought. I felt bad. I hadn't gotten him a thing. Well, besides the cookies, that I gave everyone in the band. So I invited him to dinner the next day.

I figured he'd be with family. I knew he was single. And older than me. But still, he has a big family. So I just thought he'd spend the holiday with him. No, he came over. And I cooked. We spent the holiday together. And for the next few weeks, we worked together. Spent all that time together. When we weren't working, we were hanging out. No pressure. We'd go out to dinner. Or stay in and watch movies. Listen to all kinds of music. Can you see a pattern here? To this point in my life, I'd only ever dated musicians...

Well, I moved back south and start classes in January. Because he worked on the weekends, he'd visit me during the week. And I'd visit him on the weekends. When I could. Because I was also performing during the weekends. And working at the hospital.

We dated. Became more and more serious as the months past. He showered me with gifts. And to be honest, I was uncomfortable of that. But I figured, over time, I'd get used to it. We also traveled. Went on trips together. By Summer 2004, we were serious. Working together a lot. He'd travel with me for work. And I'd travel with him. We worked all over the country. But it was a fun summer. I went to class during the week, and performed on the weekends.

The next year, was filled with fun times. We spent as much time together as we could. We worked together. Joe traveled with me. My performing career was really taking off. We spent so much time together. I was getting used to this lifestyle. We were getting used to the relationship. Spending more and more time together. Having fun. Learning more and more about each other.

My friends would all tell me how lucky I was. And I knew it. This man really loved me. He always had my back. Was doing things for me. Buying me the silliest presents. Like palm trees and paper dolls. And the most expensive. Like jewelry and clothes. We'd travel. See all sorts of new things together. And we just enjoyed each other. Enjoyed sharing dinners. Or just hanging out at home.

Then my nieces needed me. In late July 2005 our lives changed. My nieces really needed me. They needed someone to take care of them. Their mom was diagnosed with cancer. And all of a sudden, I became the sole guardian of 6 little girls. Did I mention? I also had my cousin and a friend living with me. My cousin was dealing with depression, as was my friend. Life was getting complicated!

Joe decided to move in with me. He figured that during the week, he'd help me with the girls. During the weekends, he could still travel for work. So we did that. This was the only time, that I was happy, that he had money. Serious money. Money to help support this crazy household. I had gone from living alone, to barely having a place to sleep in my own home. All of a sudden, my 3 bedroom home felt like a cramped box.

I was also working at the hospital. And at Target. I had shows to perform. Joe was working. He was running a business. During the week, he worked from my house. He's office and workspace, was also our Laundry Room. During the weekends, he was on the road. Life was ridiculously different. We had no room. But we were making it work. :)

Then Hurricane Katrina happened. One of his close friends was missing. That friend's wife and kids were stranded. So Joe went to get them. Along the way, they found his friend. He was seriously injured. And would have to stay in the south. So Joe came back. He also brought these 2 kids. Yes, add 2 more to the bunch. Oh, and Joe's niece. Who was now attending my university too!

So Joe rented the house behind mine. We put in a gate between the 2 houses. The 3 adult women, and my older 2 nieces moved in. But pretty much, they just slept there. Everyone spent time at my house. We'd eat meals together. Kids would play, homework would get done, and TV would be watched. All the little ones stayed in my house. Life was crazy. It was chaotic. Joe would make sure all the kids got to school. And the little ones, he watched. With the help of my cousin.

By November 2005, Joe's friend and wife moved. We helped them get a house, not far from mine. And they took their kids. But we still had 6 kids to take care of! And soon, I had 2 more nieces and 2 nephews that would come and go. Yes, they would spend good amounts of time with us too!

On top of this, we watched Joe's nieces and nephews on the weekends. When we could get home, we'd all go. My nieces would stay with my parents. And Joe and I would stay at his house. 95% of the time, we'd have some of his nieces and nephews. But the real thing that was bugging him, was that his niece and Sancho were dating. And they were serious!

Our relationship was changing. It was more like we were in "Survival Mode." We were parenting together. And every day was about surviving. We spent little to no time together, without the kids. It was just life. And it was busy. We were taking care of everyone. Living in too small of a space. So Joe bought a big house. We bought a big house. On a big piece of properly. More like a farm. Then I got hurt. I hurt my back really bad. And I stopped working at Target. We were in the middle of our move. I was still in school. Still in my internship. But not working. Not really performing. Just surviving.

Joe's niece and Sancho were dating. And when we moved, I let them live in my house. It was closer to the university. My friend and my cousin stayed in the rented house. So life should have calmed down. But it didn't. I was constantly worried about life. About money. About Joe. About my nieces. I never took any of Joe's money. It's a sore subject for me. But I've never felt comfortable taking money from a man. No matter if we were dating, in love, whatever. I let him pay for the girl's school. Because he wanted to do it. And he could afford it. But not much else.

But the girls also got money. Because of their mom. We used that for their food. Seriously, it wasn't a lot. And we'd put some in the bank. But Joe took care of everyone. And I was forcing myself to perform more. Bad back or not, I needed to make money.

By May 2006, we were exhausted! The girls were going to stay with my parents for the summer. And I was going to take classes and perform. I knew, in August, I was moving back home. Because my parents needed help with their growing business. My nieces' mom was doing better. But before she regained custody of the girls, she wanted me to live closer. So I could help her.

So I made all the arrangements. I took 5 big internships, up north. I talked to my professors. And I was going to be able to take all of my classes online. I was set. So when school ended for the girls and they'd gone to my parents, I tried to talk to Joe. I suggested that he should move north at the time. So we could get used to being home. In our hometown. Get ready for the next big adventure.

I was taking classes all summer. But I figured I'd spend all the weekends up north. And he could get back to normal. Have a normal life. No responsibilities. Could devote his time to his business. And in about 8 weeks, we'd be back to living together. It sounded like a good plan. But Joe wasn't on board.

That was the end! We had a horrible fight. A really nasty one. Until then, we'd really never fought. I'm serious. We'd talk things out. We didn't always agree, but we'd talk. Not this day. It got ugly. And I knew, I was done. As I turned around to leave, I was moving back to my own house, he blew it...

We were living in this big house. On a huge piece of property. A working farm. He would sell his crop. A local crop. It wasn't an animal farm. But a farm. The house was huge. The back of the house, had a huge window. The 3 story tall home, had a single huge window in the back. It looked out to the orchards.

And we had this coffee table. With a big bowl on top. That was filled with these HUGE stone balls. He picked one up and threw it. I ducked. And it shattered the glass. Luckily, we were the only ones home. And neither of us got hurt. But the window, was now in a million pieces! I'd never seen Joe mad or upset. Until that day. He'd never laid a hand on me. Never hurt me. But that, it scared the crap out of me!

I left. I didn't tell him where I was going. I just left. I ended up at a friend's house. J's. And I told him what had happened. That I'd never go back. So I stayed with J. Until I knew Joe was home. Up north. I went back to Joe's house, and I packed up all of my stuff. The girls had already moved. And I just made sure that we had all of our stuff.

A few weeks later, I called Joe's sister. Made sure Joe was gone again. And I took my stuff out of his house. The one in our hometown. I didn't take anything that he had given me. Just my stuff. Left all the expensive clothes, shoes, jewelry. Everything. I didn't want things that he had given me. I wrote him a letter and left all his keys. That was the end.

For a couple that traveled, vacationed together, even talked about marriage...it was over. Joe had already bought "The Ring." We'd talked about kids. We wanted kids together. Heck, for 9 months, we had a family. We took care of so many kids. We were a family. We had bought a home together. Now, we weren't talking.

Soon after, he and an old friend of his decided to have a baby. He wanted kids. He had always wanted kids. Joe is 15 years older than me. It had never been a problem. Until the end. Because beofre that, we'd agreed that I'd finish my BA, then get married. Wait a year or 2, then have kids. Obviously, I wasn't working fast enough.

In the end, I think we were in different places in our lives. He was ready to settle down and have a family. I was still consumed in school and a career. Also, the stresses of taking care of his family and mine, it didn't lead to a good place. About a year after our horrible fight, Joe welcomed a son into the world.

We hadn't talked. Literally, that fight was the end for me. He'd call. I didn't want to talk. He'd text me. He'd show up at my house. I never opened the door. I just wasn't ready to talk. I didn't care how sorry he was. I refused to be in a relationship like that. I knew he was upset. About the way things ended. But I couldn't deal with it.

When his son was about 6 months old, he called me. It was the only time we've talked, since our breakup. He was stressed out. He had an infant son. A son that he had wanted. One that he had planned. His friend would have his baby, then give Joe the baby. All the responsibilities. He's be the only parent. At that point, Joe was overwhelmed. He was sorry for what he did. I wanted us to be together again. He wanted a family. He needed help with his son.

I couldn't do it. Joe is the only man, that I've ever dated, that I have not remained friends with. We don't talk. I occasionally will see him. While I'm performing. Or something like that. But we don't talk. His family, they never got an explanation from me. And I felt bad about that. I did get to talk to his mom and sister. His niece and I are friends. And occasionally, the 4 of us will meet for lunch.

But this was the relationship that changed a lot for me. I grew up so much. We dated for almost 2 1/2 years. We had made so many plans. Literally, in the last few months of our relationship, we'd begun planning our wedding. I figured, I'd take the easier option of my major. I'd have about 18 months left of school. Then we'd get married.

We had talked things out. I'd stay home. I'd be that housewife and stay at home mommy. He worked from home anyway. During the week. And on the weekends, he'd continue to perform. I'd occasionally do shows. We'd have 3 or 4 kids. We had it all planned out.

But the one thing, that never mattered to us, age, became the thing that was too big to ignore. We had bottled up all of our emotions. For months. Because we had been "surviving." And when they finally had all come flying out, it was horrible. On that horrible day, there was no turning back. And honestly, I would not change a thing that happened. It made me grow. Grow into a better person.

I'm now a stronger woman. Someone that knows exactly how much I'm really willing to sacrifice for love. I know that I'll never lose myself in a relationship again. I'd never allow violence to be in my life. And I'd never in my lifetime, be that scared again. ♥

Superman Lost His Fight

I can't help but be incredibly sad. Pretty much crushed. My hero, my mentor, my friend lost his battle yesterday. Incredibly sad. I feel so empty inside. Like a part of me is instantly missing. My Superman, he lost his fight.

He battled cancer for years. He had battled his health, his entire life. But he never gave up. Never said it was too much. And when I began my fight with "The Big C," it was my dear friend that encouraged my own fight.

I met him as a young child. Quickly he became one of my parent's best friends. And my mentor. Someone who had accomplished so much in his lifetime. He came from a small town. He went to college, and became a teacher. Never giving up on his own education, he earned his PhD. A truly amazing man.

My friend was also a family man. A father of 2. Was married for the second time. Completely in love with his wife. He loved his grandchildren. And his stepchildren. He was devoted to his family. And that, I learned. Family always comes first. He taught me that.

He was also a devoted man. To the church. He loved his God. As I love God. Church made him happy. He enjoyed religion. He enjoyed everything about the church. And that, we shared. We'd talk about church. I'd send him various religious articles, symbols, and cards. We have a love for our Lord, that is an unbroken bond. A forever love.

My dear friend was my hero. My Superman. He taught me that nothing is ever out of reach. With plenty of hard work and persistence, you can get there. You can accomplish all of your goals. It just takes hard work. He had a dream to own a home, near the mountains. One of those expensive ones. About 10 years ago, he accomplished that. I remember the first time I visited. And we sat looking at the mountains and the stars. He also held an important job. One that took his entire career to get to. But one that he was so proud of.

He wasn't just a casual meeting. A chance friend. Someone that passes through your life. My friend had a HUGE impact on my life. He changed the direction I would take. The way I look at life. Even the man, that I allowed myself to fall in love with. Yes, my friend encouraged me to love My Guy. He knew it was important to have a life partner.

As incredibly sad as I am, I'm grateful. This amazing man was in my life. For 20 years. He changed me. He taught me. He allowed me to grow. He made my life better. And he taught me how to live. I'll never forget those things. Ever! Because that's how special he was.

My friend will always have a HUGE place in my heart. Thinking about him, brings a smile to my face. Those familiar hugs, I will miss them. I'll miss talking about life. His encouraging words. And his kind heart.

As hard as my own battle with "The Big C" has been, I will never give up. I've learned that from this man. To never give up. You never know what God has planned for you. Or what lies in your future.

On this day. The day when my heart is heavy with grief, I pray. I pray that my friend no longer has to suffer. That he gets to dance with the angels. Eat all the yummy food his heart desires. That he longer has to feel the pain that he lived with. And that my dear Lord has opened the Gates of Heaven to him. ♥

Sancho

Sancho was my "College Sweetheart." The one that I never saw coming. At all! Because we were so different. He was the guy that all the girls were in love with. I'm not lying. Little girls, college co-eds, old ladies...they all loved him! I remember more than once, women throwing their bras at him. While we were performing!

We met when I was a freshman in college. He was incredibly polite. You could tell that his momma had raised him right. He always made it a point to talk to me. We'd see each other in rehearsals and around campus. But we never really talked. It was more like a friendly "Hi" when we'd see each other. But no hanging out. No real conversations. He invited me to his house a few times. To "Jam Sessions." I just never went.

Until the late Spring of 2003. I don't really know how it happened. Or when I let my guard down. But I did. And we started hanging out more and more. We'd go to his house and watch movies. He'd play the guitar. We'd sing together. Just hang out. Like typical musicians.

And I'd cook for us at my house. Just hanging out. Casually dating. Not telling anyone though. As you will see in later weeks, this has become a pattern with me. Keeping my relationships on the "DL." But for this relationship, at the time, it was the best decision for us.

We spent the entire summer hanging out. I'd go watch him "gig" and he'd go watch me. Pretty much every day, we'd have dinner together. While I went to class, he worked. And evenings and nights were spent just hanging out.

When classes started up again, it became a bit more complicated. We'd flirt in front of people. More like he'd flirt, I'd blush. But no one knew the truth. OK, so one of our professors/friends sorta figured it out. It was pretty obvious. If you were paying attention...

Beyond our professor, Sancho told one friend. And I told one friend. And it stayed like that. At school, we'd casually talk. Just like friends. But we'd spend every evening together. Well, when my rehearsals, and our classes permitted. We'd catch Saturday breakfasts together. It seemed to be a good day to just hangout. And it was something we'd both look forward to. :)

Yes, we worked in close quarters. But we tried to keep things under wraps. Why? I'm not sure. It seemed like a good idea. At least, at the time. We went to conferences together. And performances. But we kept our distance.

The only slip ups we ever had, were actually hilarious! It always seemed like when I was late, he was late. I'd be running in the back down. Completely flustered. And he'd be casually walking through the front door. Not a care in the world. That was us. We'd get that look. Like "What's Going On?" He'd throw a devilish smile. Shrug his shoulders. And pull his hat a little lower. I'd try to explain why I was late. I doubt anyone ever believed us. Which was funny. Because it was true.

Another time, I was seriously late. Like 45 minutes. I came running in, and it was so hot inside! Probably because I had just run 3 miles. And worked out for 2 hours. I was also dressed in 2 layers of clothes. Because it was wintertime. I had on a tank top and shorts on. And to get from the gym to school, I put on a jogging suit. When I got inside, I swear the heater was on full blast. It was at least 80 degrees inside.

I contemplated what to do. I couldn't concentrate on our class. But I knew if I took off my pants, I'd get some crazy looks. Never mind that it was so hot. And that I had on shorts underneath. So I stood there. Just trying to get through my class. After an hour, I couldn't deal. And I took off my jacket...

Sancho, he fell down. Literally! And all I heard was "Woah!" And that too familiar whistle. I wanted to crack up. To at least turn around and see if he was OK. But I didn't. I couldn't. I'd give everything up. Later, we laughed about this. Because it was funny. And I'm pretty sure, by this time more people were figuring out our dating situation.

And me, I'm sure I sucked at keeping things on the "DL." Because he'd get me all flustered. I couldn't sing or play in front of him. Forget forming sentences. More than once, I lost my train of thought, mid conversation! People would ask me what was going on. I'd just shrug and say I had no clue. But the reality was, he made me nervous!

Sancho and I got more serious after I had a serious accident. I had totalled out my car. And honestly, I was lucky to have walked away. It happened on the highway. And I was at least 16 hours late getting home. Because I was scared to drive. But my Dad put me in his truck, and sent me off. It took me almost 6 hours, to make a 3 hour drive.

When I got home that night, Sancho was waiting for me. I could barely move. I was so sore. Everything hurt. I was an emotional wreck. He was there for me. Later that week, my auntie past away. Again he was there for me. That entire week, he would stay with me. Whenever we weren't in school, he was with me. He'd take me to school and rehearsals. And in the evenings/nights he would stay with me. Make sure I was OK. Make sure I was eating. And he'd let me cry.

We were really close. And it was nice, to finally be in a decent and serious relationship. We spent as much time as we could together. Even to the point were he'd bring me lunch on Wednesdays. When I didn't have a break between classes. So we'd have a quick, 10 minute lunch under the trees. It was everything that a "college relationship" should be. Fun, easy, and full of life.

As quickly and unexpectedly as it started, it ended. I'm thinking, at some point, the secrecy of our relationship, killed our relationship. We had a big performance before our Christmas break. And like usual, we stayed separate from one another. Afterward, we did go out. With his friends. Friends away from school. And it felt so good. Like things were finally falling into place. Like it was right. Like maybe, this was going to last.

But in the morning, after everything was behind us, and we were back to school...we were back to staying apart. It was tough. I knew we both wanted to just be happy. And not worry about what other people thought. But his job, sorta depended and flourished, because he was single. Not so good when we were dating...

Well, we finished the semester. And we actually spent a few days in town. Dating. Being "normal." Because no one else was in town. And really enjoying it. We wanted for this to work. Because we made each other better. He encouraged me to be more outgoing, like him. To enjoy life. And I kinda mellowed him out. Made him a bit more responsible. And taught him a lot about life too. We were just compliments to each other. Were one of us lacked, the other made up.

It was nice to be with someone who shared my same values and morals. We could have a good time. Laugh at ourselves. Jam to our music. Just have a good time. But the break from school, lead to the breakup. Although we drove together to my hometown, but in our own cars, that was the last we seen of each other. For our Christmas break. He went his way, and I went mine.

Life got busy. I went to work. And he went to work. Performing in different groups. Living in different cities. Living our separate lives. As easily as we started dating, 7 months later, we just stopped dating. No reasons. No real explanations. No official "Break Up Talk."

We're still friends. Good friends. Between December 2003 and July 2006, we didn't talk much. Mostly our conversations were about gigs or friends. Never just the 2 of us. We'd see each other at school, and we'd say Hi. But that wasn't often. But in 2006, when I moved back up north, I lived with Sancho. He was such a good friend.

We lived together for 9 months or so. It was right when "The Big C" roared it's ugly head. He was so good and supportive. Making sure I got to doctor's appointments. Helping me to work. Yes, more than once, he'd drive me the hour to work. Because of snow, it was more like 2 hours. And he'd drive me. He took care of me when I was sick. I'm pretty sure we watched every episode of Gilmore Girls, Sex in the City, Friends, etc. We'd watch all my favorite shows and movies. I'd cook for him. We just made it work. And I think, had I stayed longer, or hadn't been sick, we would have dated again.

But life had other plans for me. And in May 2007, I moved home. After a long internship, battling health issues, and helping my parents with their business. Sancho and I are still really close. We talk at least once a week. We still perform gigs together. To me, it's important to keep him as a good friend. We've been through a lot. Both good and bad. He's been an amazing friend to me. And I would never want to lose a dear friend like him. ♥
