Flamingos

Let me start out with, we're alive! No tornadoes have hit around here. Thank my Dear Lord! Because My Guy and I honestly considered going home Friday night, when we heard there would be tornadoes around here yesterday. My prayers go out to all the victims of the tornadoes. Because not more than 60 miles from here, they did hit.

But yesterday, My Guy had to do some work. Nothing major, but some work. He was clearly done by the afternoon. And we were a little bored. Never mind that the heavens had opened up and it was pouring on us! Literally, everything around us had flooded. But you know, we were bored. There was no cell phone reception, no internet, no satellite TV. In My Guy's words, "It might as well be Little House on the Prairie." :)

So we decided to make a trip to Target. Let's just say, none of the stores were even remotely close to us. But you know us. We put on some warm clothes and hopped in the car. Call us crazy! With a capital C. It was pouring. And we were venturing to Target.

At one point, I wanted to cry. I really thought I was going to meet my Maker. It's a good thing that My Guy is such a good driver. Who knows what would have happened otherwise. But we made it. A trip that should have been 30 minutes, was more like 90 minutes. But we made it. And we were safe.

You're probably wondering why this post is called Flamingos. Well, once inside, I just had to hit the Dollar Spot. Don't you just love it? I do! There are so many fun things there! Even when I worked at Target, it was my favorite area. :)

And in the Dollar Spot, I found some cute Flamingos. Yes, the plastic kind you put in your yard. I couldn't walk away! Oh no I couldn't. They were $2.50 a piece. And I had my heart set on 2. Somehow, we walked out with 12. :) I can't wait to get home today. My Guy and I already know where we're going to put them. Yup, right around the pool. In between all the tropical plants and trees. Go us!

But here is a little background on my LOVE for flamingos...

When I was a little girl, I LOVED going to our local zoo. In my opinion, it's one of the best in the country. And they have Flamingos. Right as you walk in. I would stand there and watch these beautiful birds. Standing on one leg. And I would stand there, on one leg, watching.

Maybe it was their gorgeous pink feathers. Or maybe not. Since, as a kid, I didn't like pink. But I LOVED Flamingos. They just seemed so magical to me.

I also LOVED how when 2 Flamingos stood by each other, their necks made a cute little heart. Every single time I see something with a Flamingo, I just have to get it. It reminds me of the days when I would sit and watch the pretty pink birds as a little girl. I even have some Flamingo Christmas tree ornaments! I'm just glad that My Guy embraces my love as well. ♥

Mars

Well, we’re in the middle of what they’re calling “severe weather.” Internet access is hit and miss. Heck, we’re just trying to stay safe. Tornadoes are in the area. So I’m going to make this short and sweet. I hope you enjoy!

When I was in the AYS program, The Plants is one of my favorite pieces that we played. More specifically, Mars. Can you tell that I’m an Aries? It just fit. After all, Mars is the “Bringer of War.” If you ever have the chance to hear The Planets by Gustav Holst live, go. You won’t regret it!

I’m leaving you with a YouTube video that I found. I hope you like Mars as much as I do. It just makes me miss symphonic playing so much! But there are so many good memories tied to this piece. I just wish I could either play it again, or see it live. :) ♥

French Glamour

I was a little bored this afternoon. And I was doing a search for aprons. I just adore them! Honestly, I wish I could buy 20 right now! And I'm not lying. I have so many saved on my favorites. My Guy was using my computer last week and asked why I had so many bookmarked. I had no good explanation. Just that I like them. :)

Anyway, I found this one a little while ago. It's called French Glamour. And it comes with this cute matching towel. But the price is a little much. $43.95 plus shipping. There are so many days that I wish I could win the lottery. just so I could buy fun things like this without feeling guilty. But oh well.

I can still dream. Just don't tell My Guy. I might come home and find those 20 aprons hanging up in our kitchen. Not that I'd complain. But seriously, I don't really need them all! I just hope I get this one for Christmas this year. Because who wouldn't want to look chic in their very own black and white apron, while making some yummy biscuits? ♥

Dove Truffle Eggs

I’m a HUGE chocolate fan. Everyone that knows me, knows that. It’s not a statement or a promise, it’s a fact. And Dove Truffle eggs are some of my favorite delights. I had my first one as a freshman in high school. My cheerleading coach brought them into a practice…after Easter. She had found a few boxes on clearance. And I was instantly an addict!

That year, I had half of a Dove Truffle Egg. In years to follow, I would run to the store the day after Valentine’s Day. Just in search of these gems. I do have to say, they’re getting harder and harder to find. In fact, I only found 1 box today. And I went to 5 stores!

Today, I’m on my own. My Guy has his nieces. They decided to go do something fun. Probably something having to do with animals, eating of lots of ice cream, and My Guy having to buys a few Barbies for them. :) But it’s all in good fun. They don’t get to spend a lot of time with their uncle. So today was a nice excuse.

As for me, I’m trying to keep my mind of off missing my bestie. And I’m trying to get the girls’ Easter baskets together. Which meant lots of shopping and candy! I couldn’t resist my favorite chocolate confections. And I grabbed the last box. I hope you get to have a couple this year! Dove really needs to add a similar product to their permanent product line. ♥

Xau Xau Giveaway

Don't you just love this necklace? I do! I would love to have this during summer. For 2 reasons. #1 I LOVE crochet. I've been crocheting since I was 3 years old! #2 Cherries always remind me of summer.

Growing up, my parents had at least 5 cherry trees. I used to sit and wait until the first part of June, just waiting for the cherries to turn red. :) Then I'd sit there and eat them right off the trees! No lie!

If you would like the chance to win a $30 Gift Card from Xau Xau, where you could get this necklace, head over to Grosgrain. And don't forget to enter this giveaway. Good Luck! ♥

My Bestie

Well, my best friend is officially moved into her new home. She is longer down the road…but a good 2 hours away. I already miss her. And we just helped her moved today. My Guy and I are exhausted! Another friend of ours, helped too! But I’m sitting here feeling very empty.

My bestie really needs this. She needs a new beginning. Life has just not been kind to her lately. I’m hoping for her and her baby, that this is just what they need to heal. I’m glad that My Guy and I are able to be there for her. It’s going to be tough. I’m used to her being nearby. She worked for My Guy and traveled with us every single week. Now, she is 2 hours away. At best. Let’s not talk about the traffic between here and there.

I feel like an anxious Auntie now that she’s expecting. And I feel like an older sister looking out for her. Isn’t that crazy? But she is my bestie. Bestie for life. One of the few friends that has always been here for me. The way that I’m there for her. It’s just going to be weird. Seeing her without her hubby and with a baby. Never mind that I already miss her and we’ve only been home for a few minutes.

I cried for about an hour on the way home. We have that kind of a friendship. We’re close. We once lost touch, but over the last few years, we’ve grown so close to each other. Probably because of the situation we were in. Dating “public personas” but managing to keep it on the DL. Traveling all over just to stay close to the men we love. We found ourselves decorating new homes at the same time. Falling in love with 2 best friends. Planning out what our lives could be like. She kept trying to tell My Guy and me that we needed to get married. We needed to be more like her and her hubby.

She kept telling us, that they’d work out. And we all needed to have kids at the same time. We had so many dreams. And we spent so much time together. Doing little things like having dinner together, to the big things like their wedding. We had built such fun and interesting lives together. And every single time that I’ve needed her, she has been here for me. Holding my hand through endless doctors’ appointments. Making me laugh when I felt like death. Cheering my on when I needed to fight for my life.

Then, it started to fall apart. It started with their separation. And slowly, she moved further and further away. Things changed. He changed. She changed. All of our lives changed. And now, they’re expecting a baby. But they’re no longer together. She’s crushed. He walks around in a daze. And My Guy and I are stuck in the middle.
Our 2 best friends, they’re completely lost. But my bestie, she’s trying to move forward with her life. She wants better. She wants for her child to feel love. To have the childhood she never did. And now, my once self proclaimed “airhead” best friend has bought a house 2 hours away.

It doesn’t seem like much. But when she works Monday-Friday and we travel Thursday-Sunday…well it doesn’t leave a lot of time to spend together. 2 hours is HUGE! And I know she’s hurting. But the hope that I seen in her eyes today, it was so amazing. It was inspiring. She laughed at the fact that her nursery furniture was delivered today. My Guy and I had her house painted for her. And a good friend of ours helped us. We got her all moved in today.

Although my heart is hurting, and I’m missing her, my bestie is better off with this move. I just wish, hope, and pray that we get to spend time together. I want to see her as she grows this beautiful baby. I can’t wait to help her take care of the gorgeous little guy or gal! And more than anything, I want my bestie to be a part of my life!

So tonight, I’m going to say a few extra prayers for her. That she loves her new house. That it brings her comfort, safety, and security. I pray for the health and happiness of her and this precious baby. And most importantly, that she is able to move past this dark chapter in her life. This move is not just a new home, but a new beginning for a wonderful woman that just needs a little love. ♥

Strawberry Almond Salad

I've been searching for some yummy strawberry recipes. For one, straberries are my favorite fruit. Honestly, me and strawberries go way back! And secondly, I found a great deal on strawberries this week. I got 2 flats for $5. Not pints my friends, flats!

I really want to make something yummy. Tomorrow I'm going to make strawberry french toast for breakfast. Yum! It already has my mouth watering. What else can I make? After a quick search, I found this Strawberry Almond Salad. I'm so excited to try this tomorrow too!

Strawberry Almond Salad

Ingredients:

1 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup nonfat or light sour cream
1/4 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 pint (2 cups) fresh strawberries
1/2 pint (1 cup) fresh raspberries
1/2 pint (1 cup) fresh blueberries
1/2 cup sliced almonds, dry roasted

Instructions:

1. In a food processor, process cottage cheese until smooth. Transfer to an airtight container; refrigerate for 8 hours or until firm.

2. Put cottage cheese in a bowl; gently fold in sour cream, honey, almond extract.

3. At serving time, slice strawberries and gently combine with other berries in a bowl. Spoon about 1/3 cup berries into individual dessert dishes. Top each serving with 2 tablespoons of the cream mixture. Sprinkle with sliced almonds.

By the way, strawberries have more vitamin C than oranges. And the taste pretty good too! I would suggest going to your nearest grocery store. Because strawberries are currently on sale everywhere! And they're delish! ♥

Some Like It Vintage Giveaway

I just adore vintage. Anything and everything vintage. I'm one of those people that hunts down little dusty shops to go treasure hunting in. The one thing that completely sold me on moving across the country, was all the little towns here. To me, that meant tons and tons of thrift shopping. Because in my home state, there are not a lot of good shops to go "hunting in." Unless you consider a very shabby Goodwill or an extremely overpriced Antique Mall good shopping. Which I don't.

But over at Grosgrain, they are hosting a giveaway for a $50 gift card to Some Like It Vintage. So I just had to take a looksy! There are so many amazing items there! I searched through everything for nearly 2 hours. But this dress, it's my favorite! It's a Retro Bronze Satin Gown. And reasonably priced for the beautiful condition of the dress. Oh my! I wish I had it in my hands right now! It would make the most amazing birthday dress for me tomorrow. :)

If you would like to enter this giveaway, head over to Grosgrain. You know you don't want to miss out on a nice treasure like this! ♥

Wacky Wednesday

That was today. From the beginning of it, it’s been a day that I probably should have just stayed home. My Guy and I left from the east coast to my little desert town. We’re looking at buying a home here. Or property, and then we’d build. The problem came when he decided that we couldn’t buy anything in the town where I have my home. Because the neighbors are too close. So we looked at the small nearby community/town.

My Guy wants to buy sections of land. A section is 640 acres. I didn’t know that. I learned that as we were looking for a new place. I think it’s crazy! But I respect that he needs his privacy. We found many homes that we liked. They were just a little close to neighbors. Looks like we’ll be building our 2nd home together. This should get really interesting. But we found some property that we liked. It has a farm and lots of crops on it. And most importantly, it’s in the BFE! Right next to J’s property. Good to know the neighbor!!!

Well, our appointment with the Real Estate agent lasted forever! And I was running late. Late for dinner with my friend. Mayu and I haven’t seen each other in almost a year! I’m not lying. Last year for my birthday, that was the last time we met. We went shopping and to lunch. It’s been forever!!! So it was nice to see her again. But I was running late.

We were going to meet at 4:45PM. That would mean I would have to leave at 3:45PM. But I didn’t have my car. I called Sam so she could bring my car. It was 3:15PM. I just knew we weren’t going to make it to my house. And Sam forgot Mayu’s gifts on my bed. :( So I was pretty bummed. But I finally left at 4:15PM. Only to hit traffic! They are doing construction. The highway was down to 1 lane for over 20 miles!!! And we were at a standstill for over 20 minutes!

But I finally got there. And Mayu and I enjoyed a yummy dinner! By the way, the salad was amazing!!! But our waiter was horrible. He took our order. Made faces at my friend. And after he brought us our food, he didn’t return. OK, he came once to refill Mayu’s drink. We had wanted dessert, but our waiter was MIA. Only to return with checks and a To-Go box for me.

I don’t think I’ve ever had that bad of service before. And that was sad. We paid. And by the way, we didn’t get all of our change back. :( We left a tip. And we left. I was happy to see my friend. The food was good. But I don’t think I’ll be going back there again. It just really disappointed me.

But like I said, the important thing was catching up with my friend. We were there for about an hour and a half. And we just got to chat about a lot of things. Nothing in particular. Just about our lives. What we’ve been up to. And the direction our lives are going in. It was nice to catch up. It’s like we’ve never had a break in our friendship. We just picked up right where we left off!

As we left, I decided to call My Guy. Just to see if he and the guys had eaten anything. I know that he was going to play poker with J and some of the guys. As I thought, no one had eaten. Well, not a meal. Because I wasn’t there to feed them. So I called PF Changs and turned around. While I waited for the food, I went to Forever 21. I know, I know! But I only picked up 2 shirts, a jacket, and a couple of necklaces. I only spent $5…because I had a $50 gift card. :)

I headed back. Traffic was a lot better. Probably because it was close to 8PM by now. The guys were all happy to see the food. In fact, I stole a few things from My Guy’s order. I just couldn’t resist!!! They took a break to eat. And I whipped up a quick cake. They devoured it in no time. And My Guy finished off my takeout from Red Lobster. :)

Right now, My Guy is finally kicking butt at poker! And I’m laying on the couch. Falling asleep. I just finished the paper work for Gerard to take to MO. But I decided to do a quick post. The guys asked me to join their game. But I’m seriously falling asleep. I’ll probably head upstairs and get some sleep. We’re leaving for Sin City early in the morning. I have to perform tomorrow. It should be fun! ♥

Just a Lil Bit

Yes, 50 Cent’s song just came on My Guy’s ipod. We’re on our way to the west coast. And I stole his ipod. His sleeping and I figure I can find a better use for it. This song cracks me up. It reminded me of so many things when I heard it. And the lover of music that I am, I listen to all kinds of music!!!

During 1 of my trips to Sin City, I danced to this song. With the LBs. I don’t even remember what it was for. But we had a dance for this song. It was a remix. A DJ friend of mine did it. It was a lot faster. And when it was done, I was happy that it was over.

But when I got home, the firefighters decided that this was going to be my song. It had just been released. And unfortunately for me, they called me ‘Lil Bit. A lot of friends call me that. Mostly because I’m so short. But whatever!

Just now when I heard this song, it just reminded me of it. Yes, Mike and I used to dance to it. Randomly. But we needed something to keep us all entertained. Running up the nearby mountain in 105*F temperature, not so fun. But we’d make it fun. And it became the song they would play when I was introduced at gigs. Anyway, here’s the video. ♥

Girls

Have you ever heard the Beastie Boys’ song “Girls?” The first time I heard it, I was young. I don’t know how old I was. But I liked it. Then when I was a junior in high school, we went to cheerleading camp. We had to learn a dance routine to this song. Don’t laugh, I remembered part of the dance when I heard this song. Completely random. But oh so true!

When the LBs and I got together, they always wanted to use this song. But I resisted it. Mostly because I remembered that dance from cheerleading camp. Not the best memory. Sweaty and grouchy cheerleaders, all crammed into a college basketball arena. Sunburned and in their matching cotton shorts and t-shirts. Listening to this song over and over, trying to remember their next move.

But eventually, the LBs and I found ourselves performing for the troops. And we started to take requests for music. Surprisingly, we got a lot of requests for the Beastie Boys, and this very song! Ya, we did an entire 15 minute routine to the Beastie Boys. “Girls” was our grand finale. Which everyone enjoyed. Everyone probably, but me. But in the end, I was happy to do that routine. It put a smile on our troops’ faces. And that was our job.

So I searched for a video of “Girls.” It was difficult. Because most of the YouTube videos were highly inappropriate for my blog. Oh well. I think this one is OK. You’ll get the gist of the song anyway. But still, every single time I hear this song, I see 100s of cheerleaders dancing to that ridiculous routine, we learned on very hot summer day! ♥

Stuck in the Snow

My Guy and I, had this great idea. To come and rent a cabin in the mountains. To get away from everything. And it was a great idea. Until we realized, we might be stuck here. You see, we have to leave for Sin City today. And all the roads are closed. It's been 2 crazy days of snow storms. We even lost power for a while. It's a good thing we have all these fireplaces!

I guess we should be very happy. We got to spend some really good time alone. Just being a couple. That tends to be hard when we are living our regular lives. You know, My Guy doesn't have the easiest job. And he is very recognizable. But we are doing, what we can. Taking some time out, to just run away from life.

It is pretty important, that we make it out of here today. We both have work stuff in Sin City. But if we can't make it, what's the worst thing that could happen? We are stuck here together. I can think of worse things.

Actually, I packed up. And My Guy, is looking at some alternate routes out of here. When the sun comes up, we are going to try and get out of here. We've got all day. Hopefully!

We just need to make it to the airport. Good thing we are flying privately, and we don't have to worry about making a flight. That could definitely wrinkle our plans. So could us being stuck. Oh boy! ♥

My Favorite Candy Bars Ever

Have you tried these? They're ridiculously hard to find. I know! I'm like everyone else. Hunting them down. And I refuse to pay $3 for a candy bar! Because that's what they charge at JoAnn's. But I found them at the Dollar Tree. Yes, Big Mo' Bars for $1! I stocked up. The workers thought I was nuts!

Oh, and I didn't stop there. Because I have used them to make different desserts. Adding them into baked goods. Yummy! And in case you haven't tried them, these candy bars are a little sweet. I can split up the candy for 3 or 4 servings. They come in chocolate-carmel, and chocolate-peanut butter. The peanut butter are my favorite!

I've heard from other people that the Big Mo' Bars are only a one time deal. As in "Special Edition." Ugh! I hope they don't stop making them. Because they're delish! ♥

Custom Necklace Giveaway

I saw this necklace and immediately fell in love. It is simple and elegant. And that pearl, I am such a sucker for pearls! I can see myself wearing a necklace like this, with all of my Goddaughters' names. It would be very cute! I'm a HUGE fan of handmade. As most people know. But stamped jewelry like this, I just adore it!

The Mama Manifesto blog is hosting a giveaway for this necklace. If you would like a chance to enter, hurry up and head over to their blog. The giveaway ends tonight! All you have to do, is leave a comment about your most sentimental piece of jewelry.

My most sentimental piece of jewelry, it comes from my mom. It is one of the first rings my dad gave her. And when I moved out on my own, my mom gave it to me. It is a piece of jewelry I wear daily. And whenever I miss my parents, I just have to look at the ring to remember them! ♥

Happy 40th Anniversary!!!

So it is early! Really early for me. I'm getting ready to head to the airport. To head to my hometown, for a 2 day medical conference. It has been an amazing and very tiring 2 weeks. But my work in Sin City is over. For at least a few weeks. To be honest, I haven't slept. And I am trying to get some work done.

But when I turned my computer on and headed over to my favorite place ever, Google, I was reminded of Sesame Street! Today is the 40th Anniversary of Sesame Street. And doesn't Big Bird look good for his age? hehehe

As a kid, I LOVED Sesame Street. It was my show. I watched whenever I could. If you know me personally, you know that wasn't a lot. But it was my favorite show. I could read when I was 3 years old. I could count. I knew my colors and my shapes. And could even talk in spanish. That was me. I would sit and watch Oscar the Grouch like he was the coolest dude around town! :)

I was a PBS kid. Reading Rainbow, Mr. Rogers, and Sesame Street. When I got the chicken pox at age 4, I was devastated. I had to miss Valentine's Day at school. But I had Bert and Ernie. Actually, when I was young, I had stuffed animals of Bert and Ernie too. My big brother had given them to me. I also had this Big Bird that I could make talk. This for the kid, that was born in the early 80s. My favorites though, were my Sesame Street bedding and Christmas ornaments.

After all these years, I am sure that my parents have all these things put away somewhere in their home. Along with my Big Bird bookcase and Sesame Street books. In fact, not long ago, I saw my Sesame Street comforter in the linen closet, at my parents' house. But I have the ornaments. And every year, I put up my set of ornaments on the Christmas tree. It was probably the only thing that I remembered from my childhood when I moved out. It was years before Elmo. We bought them at the Price Club (now Costco.)

Now, I have to admit. It has been a while since I have last watched Sesame Street. But it still lives on. My niece Sandy had her 1st birthday in August. Her party theme was Sesame Street. She loves Elmo. As does my goddaughter, Anahi. Who had a Cookie Monster cake for her 2nd birthday. And all my friends' kids love to watch Sesame Street too!

The last time I saw an episode, Sarita (my goddaughter) and I watched it in spanish. She is 4 years old. But she just lit up. Singing all the songs and dancing away. It is amazing how many people have been positively touched by these characters. My sister who is now 38 years old, was a huge fan too! Sesame Street bridges generations, socioeconomic differences, and racial differences. It doesn't matter if you grew up in the projects or in middle class America, you were somehow touched by Sesame Street.

Here is to another 40 years! And millions and millions more children who are positively influenced by Big Bird and the gang! ♥

The minute I saw this dress, I thought it was perfect and classic. Yet, so playful. The crisp green and white combination always makes me think of cleanliness. Of Spring cleaning. Something I am a HUGE fan of! But with the fullness of the skirt, it is so playful. And youthful. Something you can dance in. Or wear out to lunch with your friends.

But the detail of this dress is what gets me. Everything is so perfectly stitched. Not a stitch out of place. No detail overlooked. I just love the piping and the ruffles. The way the pleats fall on the skirt, just makes me want to try this on!

Whenever I see poppies, I can't help but smile. They just remind me of fun, summer fabrics. And you know how much I LOVE fabric. I see these, and I think of summertime. Of wearing a white cotton dress, sandals, and this fun jewelry. I just can't help myself!

The pieces are delicate and fun. Colorful and sophisticated. Something a little unexpected. But for me, Welcomed all the same. I enjoy the simplicity of the pieces. But the playfulness of the poppies themselves.

If you want a chance to win these gorgeous earrings and necklace, head over to the Grosgrain Blog and enter the giveaway. Because, at the end of the day, who wouldn't want some pretty flower jewelry? It just makes you smile looking at it! ♥

Limoncello Frock Giveaway

One of my favorite blogs is hosting a giveaway for this dress. Don't you love it? I saw it and immediately thought of playing in the park on a spring day. Spring is my favorite time of year. And I can honestly see myself having a picnic with the cutie itty bitties in my life. Playing and running through the grass. I can even smell the grass. That is how in love with this dress I am. I wish I could go to a store and buy it!

The delicate ruffles. The button details. And my favorite fabric to wear, swiss dots. All of it just screams, I want this dress! There is something very playful about the dress. Almost childlike. But with an adult attitude. With all it's detail, I can imagine wearing this dress to a fun outdoor gig. And I just adore the lace that peeks out of the bottom!

So I am entering the giveaway. Because Kathleen is an amazingly talented and kind woman. She is offering this dress in a giveaway. Head over to her blog and enter. Because you know that you love it, as much as you love the fresh berries, that make there way to our tables in spring. ♥
