Look at What I Just Got!

The moment I read about Ana Paula Rimoli's new book, I wanted it! I knew it was coming out this month, but I just hadn't made it to the bookstore.

But I do have an amazing boyfriend. This morning, I found this gorgeous book, and a bunch of yarn next to our bed. I was so excited!

Now if you will excuse me, I'm off to crochet. There are just so many fun projects to make in this book! ♥

Kegger in the Desert...

Before I explain that title, let me just say this, it's been 10 years! Well, almost. 10 years since I walked across that stage, claimed my diploma, and entered the "real world." A bit scary...

I knew that my reunion was coming up. You see, my niece is graduating this year. From my old high school. And we have been talking about a lot of the things, that I did in high school. About graduation and prom. And of course, her graduation party...and going away to college.

It's brought back a lot of memories. Not all good. But definitely not all bad. I remember that day. My friends and I promised to stay close. Even though most of us were moving away. Honestly, I didn't see many of them past that day. Nowadays, I'm lucky to see any of them. Sad, but true.

There were a handful of graduation parties that I went to. I seen a handful of my friends. And right before I moved, I had lunch with some of my closest friends. Yes, some of my friends attended the same college as me. But honestly, I only saw them a handful of times. Some of these people, I had seen every single day, in high school. During our time in college, it may have 3 or 4 times. In total!

My friends that remained in my hometown, well we tried. Not well. But we tried. I e-mailed. We called. But life just took us in different directions. I met some incredible people in college. I went down a different road. Found true blue, soul mate type friends. And all those high school friends...well they became more of memories.

I tried to stay connected on MySpace. I did well...for a short while. I tried e-mail again. I'm just too busy to really stay connected. I don't have hours to pour into Facebook. But I have reconnected with a handful of people. It's been ages, since I've actually seen anyone from high school.

The other night, I told my Mr. that I wanted to search out some info, on my graduating class. I got on the Facebook account for his business. I know...but whatever. I wanted to do a little "spying." After an hour or so, I had found a good amount of my graduating class. And then...our Facebook page for our reunion.

There was a survey. And talk about getting together. Sometime between this Summer and Fall. I thought, after the weekend, I'll come back and send that e-mail. I had received another e-mail from a previously close friend. Telling me about the reunion. And potentially getting together for lunch.

But when I came back to that Facebook page, I was a little disgusted. Most of my graduating class wanted a "Kegger in the Desert." Typical. I'm sure I graduated with a bunch of bafoons. No lie! Wasn't it bad enough, that they would tear up the desert, when we were in high school? Now, they want to celebrate our 10 years with getting wasted out there again...

Funny how previous to this discovery, I had considered going to my reunion. Not for the reunion itself. But to get back in touch, with a handful of friends. The ones that I miss. You know, like my "big brother" friend. Or my friend who was supposed to be my freshman roomie. The one friend that made me laugh so incredibly hard...all the time! Those friends. Maybe a cheerleader or two. Maybe someone that I didn't really talk to in high school. But because of social media, we'd connected.

But now, I'm pretty sure that I'm not going. I work 100 hours a week. Every week! Plus I travel with my Mr. It's hard to take time off. It's tough to not be on the road, supporting my Mr. But I was going to do it. Until I realized, these people have not changed. Not one bit!

10 years may have past, but they're the same people. The ones that I had very little in common with, let's be real, that's almost 95% of my graduating class! I was always the girl in the background anyway. It didn't matter that I was a cheerleader...or in every extra curricular activity. It didn't matter. I was the ONLY senior left out of the Senior video. How ironic.

I tutored more athletes than I can remember. Helped them pass classes to play sports. I decorated for all those school dances. Um, I only went to 2. Because my friends dragged me to them. I was always around, but never really seen. And I'm positive, I don't want to go back there. I'm positive, no one will miss me.

Do I wish that I had stayed in touch with some friends? Yes. Funny thing is, the people that I would have never thought about staying in touch with, some athletes, are the ones that I see more often. They've been to some of my shows. We've worked various events together. Funny how that worked out...

Others, well, I don't know. I think I would rather get together with older classes. Friends that were a year or two older. Funny how I would rather go to Enzo's reunion, than my own. I was closer to those people. Not the ones I went to school with.

Maybe it's my insecurities talking. Maybe I'm crazy. But I never felt like I "belonged" there. Never. I was the awkward cheerleader. The student that sat in the back of the class. Rarely ever talked. The cheerleader that never really "fit in." I did a lot of the "background" work. Planning, working, studying. I was the dork, geek, the weirdo.

I never dated anyone from my high school. OK, so there was that Guy...I had a MAJOR crush on him. Funny how all these years later, he admitted, that he had wanted to ask me to Prom. But was scared. Funny! Now we e-mail each other, at least once a week. Crazy how that works out.

Like I said, I didn't go to school dances. I really wasn't close to people at my high school. I didn't want a date. I almost kissed the ground, when some of my friends, were getting married on my Homecoming. Great excuse to miss the dance! I was dragged and tricked into Winter Ball. It was miserable. I can't believe I went. But I had a BLAST at Prom! Ironically, a bunch of my friends and I went. Together. Just a bunch of girls. Having a great time!

Not all of high school was miserable. There were fun trips. Great memories with some of the cheerleaders. Fun nights of hanging out. Great friends. Lots of laughter. OK, so I may have threatened our AD to take my name off of the ballet for Homecoming. And I might have wanted to kill that one athlete. But it was a fun time.

I'm just not at the point of "wanting" to go back. To dealing with a couple of 100 people, that didn't notice me. Or just were flat out mean. The few, as in 10 or so, people that I miss...I hope there is another way to get in touch with them. I'd love to reconnect with them. The rest, well, they're better left in the past. Right were they belong. ♥

BLT Pasta Salad

This is one of my favorite cookbooks. Funny how it came about. I was picking up my textbooks, at my university's bookstore. And while I was waiting in line, which took 3 hours, I found this book. Did you get that? I was in line for 3 hours! I also spent $3600 on textbooks. So the extra $15...wasn't really going to kill me. Know what I mean?

Anyway, I really like this cookbook. For a variety of reasons. Mostly because, the recipes are tasty, fast, and super easy! Our lifestyle is crazy. And fast! So we need to be able whip up dinner in now time. Without further delay, here's this week's Free Recipe of the Week from Gooseberry Patch.

BLT Pasta Salad

8-oz. pkg. elbow macaroni, cooked
4 c. tomatoes, peeled, seeded and chopped
4 slices bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
3 c. shredded lettuce
1/2 c. mayonnaise
1/3 c. sour cream
1 T. Dijon mustard
1 t. sugar
2 t. cider vinegar
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper

Rinse macaroni in cold water; drain and pour into a serving bowl. Add next 3 ingredients; toss gently and set aside. Mix remaining ingredients together in a mixing bowl; stir well. Pour over macaroni mixture; gently toss until well coated. Serve immediately. Makes 10 servings.

Thursday night, we had a cookout. Invited a bunch of friends over. My Guy grilled. Tons of food! And I made a bunch of salads. Including this one. I just didn't rinse the macaroni. I NEVER rinse pasta! But it was so yummy! Don't forget to give it a few hours, to hangout in the refrigerator. All the flavors just melt together. And there is just something about this dressing. It was so tasty. And different. I'd definitely recommend it for your next cookout!

Pineapple Goodie Bars

If you haven't noticed, I'm a big fan of sweets. I try to stay away from them. But I'm also a HUGE fan of baking! But it all works out. I try a new recipe out. Taste it, love it, wish I could have more. And then I send the rest with this guy, to his work. Yup, it works out great! So this week's Free Recipe of the Week from Gooseberry Patch, was definitely a hit. I'd recommend it!

Pineapple Goodie Bars

18-oz. tube refrigerated sugar cookie dough
1 c. chopped pecans
1/2 c. candied pineapple, chopped
1/2 c. butterscotch chips
1/2 c. sweetened dried cranberries
1/2 c. sweetened flaked coconut

Place cookie dough in a bowl; stir until softened. Add remaining ingredients except coconut; mix well. Pat mixture evenly into a 13"x9" greased baking pan. Sprinkle coconut over top and press lightly. Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool; cut into bars. Makes 2 dozen.

Yum! The perfect dessert for summer. If only I'd eat one bar. But when can you ever have one of anything sweet? That's why I send almost the entire pan, with this guy. I figure he needs the calories more than me. But they are delish! ♥

Inspiration

I feel like I'm lacking in inspiration lately. Inspiration for everything. Crafting, blogging, just life in general. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe I'm on overload. There has been so much going on lately. I'm really just exhausted! So much has gone on, and changed, in the last few months. And now, I NEED to step back, and take care of me.

That's probably one of the hardest things for me to do. I'm not wired to just stop, and take care of me. But I'm learning, the hard way, that you need to do just that. You need to take care of yourself first. It's the only way that you are really about to take care of others.

So I'm going to take a deep breath. And look for a little bit of inspiration. You know, work on a project for me. I'm not sure if that means tackling a garden, adding beautiful flowers outside, or maybe getting my Craft Room/Office just the way I want it.

Heck, I might just venture out. Start a fun sewing project. Or actually crochet something for me. Yes, that's right. I've never made myself anything! It's weird. Even I know that. But it's the truth. And that's what I'm getting at. I need to start taking care of me.

You can only go so long, giving yourself to others. Making sure they're a OK. And then you start to lose yourself. That's pretty much where I'm at. I need to take a page from My Guy's book. Every once in a while, he just takes a day to chill. To do something he really enjoys. I've always supported that. Because he works hard, and he needs the down time.

So I'm being inspired. Inspired to be a better person. To take time for myself. To make myself a better person. It means a lot. I've been through a lot. And sometimes, you just need to stop and do something for yourself.

I think I'm going to start this adventure with a trip to Hobby Lobby. Or maybe Target. And just buy something, that I've wanted for a while. I'm also going to sign up for some kind of class. There are so many things that I want to learn, and try out. This is the time. I'm going to use the world, as my inspiration.

Making Sweet Smiles

This man has gotten me addicted, to these sweet treats. And when I tell you sweet, I mean it! Unlike M&M's, I'm lucky to eat 1/3 of a package, of these babies. Super sweet. Super yummy! And I'm not entirely sure, how I missed these treats. all these years.

I've walked past the packages many times. Just thinking, why? Why would you buy them? Wouldn't it be like M&M's with peanut butter. I've tried those. And wasn't a huge fan. But these guys, they're different.

And so we're addicted. Completely addicted! A package is easily devoured, while watching the latest episode of The Office. We're not even embarrassed to say that. Although, I'm sure my waistline is going to start fighting us. Maybe an extra mile of running will help us. :) ♥

God Bless Texas

Yes, God Bless Texas! It could easily be said, if My Guy didn't have to live, in the Southeast for work, we'd probably live in Texas. Not here in the Dallas area. But somewhere off on a Ranch. Because that's what we enjoy. Nature. In all her beauty! :)

But you can't go wrong working here. At least 2 weeks at of the year, we somehow line up our schedules, and work here. In the Lonestar State. It's beautiful. The way of life, is amazing. Easy going, hard working, enjoying everything life has to offer. Just what we like!

Most of all, this week, is about enjoying our friends. Because of our crazy schedules, we rarely get to spend time with our friends. But this is one of those weeks, when we simply make time. And lots of it. Without good friends, well life isn't so fun.

The early part of our week, was dedicated to work. Working really hard and long hours. But also, spending time with my friends, in the evenings. Later this week, will be all about spending time with My Guy's friends. And his crazy long work hours. But it's the fun that gets us through these "tough schedules."

Sometimes you just have to remember the simplicity in life. The things that matter most. And somehow, "magic" just happens in Texas. We can't explain it. It just happens. You laugh bigger, eat more, and just breath better. We're so happy, to be in this wonderful state all week. God Bless Texas! ♥

Laughter and Friends

Sometimes you just need to laugh. And to laugh really hard, with amazing friends, good family, or a great boyfriend. And today, I was lucky enough to spend some time with Emmers and Vi. Old college friends.

We had a quick lunch. Because Vi and I are working. Then, with our "significant others," we met for a fun dinner. A late dinner. But a fun dinner. Sorry everyone. The whole, getting out at 8PM is not the best. But we learn how to make do. And we had a great time. Being an intern, well I'm not letting that, get me down. Even if I'm not sleeping...

Laughter is what I've been needing a lot of. Lately, life has been too serious. Too rigid. Too tough. Too serious. And almost too much. It was nice to just catch up with my friends. To laugh until my belly hurt. Oh, and then laugh some more.

What is better, than watching the guys laugh so much? It was hilarious! I swear, I thought they were going to knock our table over. Scotty and the beer...priceless. Beer shooting out his nose, how can you laugh that hard? I'm not sure. But it was funny! We really did enjoy ourselves.

Yes, we had a great time! Laughed so much, my belly is sore right now. But it was what I needed. What I desperately needed. We have a few more days left in Dallas. And we're definitely meeting up again. Because these ladies, are just what the doctor ordered. Great friends, good times, and a little bit of a distraction from "real life." If I could just bottle up some of that laughter... ♥

Flooded...

I guess it could be worse. My house could be floating down the road. But it's not. I could have been home, and gotten sick. Someone could have gotten hurt. Something really bad could have happened. But it didn't.

What am I talking about? Well, for my Facebook and Twitter friends, you saw my post last night. I had a flood...in my house. That I didn't know about. And my friend found it. The carpet has been soaked for a few days. Add in the record breaking heat, and we have trouble!

What makes all of this worse, is that I'm working all week in Dallas. So is My Guy. And at the earliest, we can get to my house on Sunday. Sunday people! So I freaked. About had a heart attack. It didn't help that we were "in-flight" at the moment. From the east coast to Dallas.

Instantly, I went from trying to cheer up My Guy, to him trying to calm me down. So much for his "bad day" at work. I was now in crisis mode. And honestly, there was not much that I could do. But call a few people. Like my cousin and his wife.

This happening to me. The OCD person. With everything in it's place at all times. Insanely clean house. And now, MY BEDROOM is flooded! The carpet is possibly growing mold. Yuck! And who knows what else is going on...

So Amaya found the soaked carpet Sunday evening. She was staying at my house for a few days. Because she was in town working. We do this quite often. And after the soaked carpet in the hallway, she found that my bedroom and bathroom were completely soaked! The water even ran into my den. OMG!

She didn't know what to do. Was a few 100 miles away, from the people she knows. And her home. So she called me. I panicked. Called a few people. Then decided to call Fern. He showed up with a "Shop Vac." And tried to soak up some of the water. But, it had been a few days. :(

So from what I hear, my bedroom closet, linen closet, heater (in a closet thing), hallway, master bathroom, master bedroom, and the den were all soaked. And things are smelling a little "horrible."

Fern was sweet enough to offer Amaya a place to stay. And to open up the windows in my house. He also put all the fans on, brought in a few more (like 8 more), and just got everything drying out.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do. But I do know, Sunday, we're heading to my house. Then we will evaluate things. Fern said there is no broken or leaking pipes. We're not entirely sure how the water got in. Other than, through the shower drain. Imagine that. But how? We have no clue!

My Guy called a contractor to go check things out. Fern turned off the water. And well, we wait. At the bare minimum, the carpet will have to be replaced. And probably the tile in the master bathroom. Other than that, we are not entirely sure.

I do know that a few things were damaged. Like a bookshelf. And some speakers. Possibly a sound system. Probably some shoes, and maybe some clothes. I'm not entirely sure what else, I had on the floor or in the closet. I haven't lived there in a few years.

This is definitely not the way, that I saw this week going. I'm majorly stressed out. And I have to work long hours this week. But I'm learning all about faith. And how to just hand over this kind of stuff to God. He will help. At least no one was hurt. And I still have a place to live. The rest, well it can be replaced. ♥

Now Eat This! Diet Book

I want this book. No, I'm not on a diet. But you know me and cookbooks. I just LOVE cookbooks! Oh, and I am a nutrition major. So this should be pretty obvious. Do you know what I mean?

Sometime in the last 2 weeks, I caught a quick interview. About this book. And the food looked yummy. And the concept sounded good. I'm all over this book. I just need to get to the bookstore. You know, to buy this baby!

I think the concept is a good one. And who doesn't want to eat a bit healthier? I know I would like to add a few more "healthy" choices to our menu. We do a good job of balancing the yummy southern food, with the healthy stuff. So this book sounds like a win-win situation for me! ♥

Red Riding Hood

I'm not sure why, I'm so into this book and movie. But I am. Maybe because I dressed up like Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween. Or because as a little girl, I really like Little Red Riding Hood. But anyway that you spin it, I really like this story.

I started to see the commercials, for the movie, about a month ago. And instantly, I told My Guy that we were going to have to go see it. We still haven't had a chance. But we're definitely going. And for my birthday, my mom bought me the book.

But because of life, I just hadn't had the time to sit and read. Until this weekend. We've been doing a lot of traveling. For My Guy's work. And I've had the chance to read, while he is either taking a quick nap, or working.

I was so excited to get to read yesterday! I had a lot of work. But I decide that during our "travel time," I'd read. And read I did! I almost finished the book. And I probably would have finished it, had I not had so much work. Oh, and I fell asleep, on the way home.

But this is such a quick read. And I finished it this morning. While I was putting off my real work. I really liked this book. So much! Until the end. I just didn't like the way it ended. Even with the last chapter. Which you have to get online.

Maybe this is going to be a series of books, or something. I hope so. Because that would be the only way to explain the ending. I've never read any of the Harry Potter or Twilight books. I was just not interested. But this new version of Little Red Riding Hood, I'm all over it!

Have you read this book? Or seen the movie? What do you think? I would recommend this book. I'm just hoping that there is a second book. I feel like there are too many unanswered questions. Or maybe, I'm just a romantic at heart. ♥

April Dreaming

First of all, Happy April Fool's Day! I'm not much of a joke-ster. I'm just not cleaver enough. Or funny enough. But My Guy is. And he's got a lot of things, planned for his co-workers and employees today. I hope everyone has fun! :)

Me? I'm trying to get through a pile of work. And school stuff. And I can't believe, that on a gorgeous day like this, that I'm stuck inside! This has to be the worst! But I have to be a "grown up" and work.

So I'm making the best of it. I've got lots of yummy foods to munch on. And a good book that I need to finish reading. Oh, and I may or may not have just spent 30 minutes drooling over Anthropolgie. Only to find this beauty...

This dress just reminds me of Spring. So happy and cheerful! Maybe I'm a "Cheapskate." But I have a hard time parting with $200. You know, for one dress. But it's a fun dream to dream. It would be beautiful for some of the upcoming "showers" that I have to go to...
