Movie Date Night

Since we got the good news yesterday, we've been going 100 MPH!!! Lots of things, that had been previously, "Put on the Back Burner," well have to get done. ASAP!!! So we're are busy again. I know. Life really never does stop.

My Guy, worked for a few hours today. Getting back "Into the Groove of Things." You know, until we start traveling tomorrow. I've been running around. Picking up things that we need, heading to the store, just making sure we'll have everything that we could possibly need.

But tonight, we decided to take it easy. Head to the "Lake House." Order in some food, from our favorite Japanese resturant. And watch a few good movies. Starting with The Help. One of my favorites. And surprisingly, one of My Guy's favorites too! Just don't tell anyone. ;)

We also watched The Secret Life of Bees. I'd never seen it. Neither had he. But we'd had it, in our collection, for a few years now. I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but it was still sealed! I know...

Honestly, it was such a good movie. Super cute. Dakota Fanning, and Queen Latifah make the entire movie! How come I don't remember this movie? Like I never remember hearing about it. But somehow, we had it. :) Now I want to read the book. The books are always better, than the movies. Don't you think?

I don't know if this man shared my same love. Of this movie. He did fall asleep. But I'm thinking, that had more to do with him going back to work. It's been over 2 weeks, since he'd worked. So I'm OK with his napping. In fact, I finished 2 presents I was making. :) A crochet blanket. And a baby set. I even got about halfway, with a scarf and hat set.

We ended our movie watching with Cast Away. And I even got some packing down. As this guy, and our fur babies are now, fast asleep. We really enjoyed this quiet night at home. Very unusual for us. But something that we both, enjoyed so much! I think we need to do this more. You know, without one of us being hurt or sick. Just make a new "Movie Date Night."

In Love with Colored Denim!!!

I have a bit of a confession. In March, my parents took me shopping. For my birthday. Honestly, I didn't want to go. Am I the only one, that feels too old, to let their parents buy them stuff? Maybe it's just me...

Anyway, my Mom and I, ended up at Old Navy. We also got a little sidetracked at JCPenney, The Icing, Victoria's Secret, a local shoe store, and a cute boutique. :) I know, huh. But really, I didn't want to shop. Back to Old Navy.

They were having this insane sale!!! And I was mentally, writing down a list of things I wanted to buy. Later. With my money. Then I saw those jeans! The ones that Jelly has been sporting. The ones, that I thought I would look ridiculous wearing. Yes, those jeans!

Beautifully colored jeans. Oh. My. Goodness! I just didn't know what to do!!! And they were on sale. So I let my Momma, buy me 2 pairs. :) Green and yellow. My heart was a little heavy, when they didn't have my size in blue...

Then I get online, and everyone is wearing colored denim. And I'm falling in love...faster...and harder. I tell this guy about it. He promptly orders every color from Old Navy. Before I return home. Have I mentioned how much I love him? And not just because of this little deed...

And then I see this fabulous picture of Mrs. Ingrid. Rocking a pair of yellow jeans. Similar to the ones, that are hanging in my closet. The ONLY pair, that I haven't worn. Because I'm just NOT brave enough yet...

Yes, I'm in LOVE with colored denim!!! There is no rhyme or reason. Just the simple fact. On my days off, I'm in colored denim. Even when my pjs are calling my name. They're just so pretty, that I can't help myself! ♥

Going Red?

Every few years, I get this itching...to make a major change. Do something crazy! You know, throw everything in the air...and see what happens. And I'm just talking about life. Sometimes I'm taking about little things. Like hairstyle. Or hair color.

You see, I've always had long locks. For the last few years...extra long locks. And well...I'm getting a little tired of them. Mostly, I just need a change. It doesn't help that Manders is in town. And every single day, that she does my hair or makeup, I want her to live with us. And every single day, I complain just a tad bit, about the new white hairs that are invading my head! I'm only 29. What's up?

It might be stress. I'm a full time college student. With a full time internship. At a hospital. Pretty stressful. If I do say so myself. On top of that, I've got a boyfriend that travels for work...oh 40+ weeks out of the year. I'm trying to make 4 houses...into homes for us. Oh, and I have a sick parent. I'm a little stressed out. But I do believe, my white hair is genetic. You see, my paternal grandma had snow white hair! As did most of her daughters...my aunts. I just think, I'll be snow white too...in a handful of years.

So I took to my friend. The professional. And we started shooting around some ideas. Like a new hairstyle. Take about 10 inches off. Add some sassy-ness back in! As soon as we're done with these gigs. And maybe, a new color. Like say...RED?!?!?! I know. But the truth is, my Dad was a natural red head. And although I was born with jet black hair, over the years it has lightened. Naturally. Every single summer! I know have dark brown hair, with tons of red in it. So why not jump off the cliff?

This is actually, just a few shades redder than my natural color. Not much. And I'm also ghostly white. I'm not sure what happened to my Chicana genes...

Ya, I'm not convinced with this color. But I do have a cousin, and niece with this shade of red. To me, it's a bit too "on the orange side of things." Although Manders says, it will work well with my complexion. I'm just not feeling it...

This is actually perfection to me! I've got dark eyebrows like this. But a lot thicker. But honestly, I LOVE this color and style!!! Just red enough...but not too crazy. Or unnatural.

Oh, yes! I'm in LOVE with this darker color. Kate Walsh pulls it off so well! I like the hint of red. With the mystery of the dark color. :)

Let's not forget Debra Messing's gorgeous locks! LOVE the richness of this color. With the dimensions. Highlights and low lights. This color is gorgeous!

So I'm off to talk to Manders. And make some sort of decision. We probably won't do it right now. Since I'm performing, the entire time she is out here. But in just a few weeks, I'll be making weekly trips back home. For weddings, baptisms, and Father's Day. That's when, I am sure to take the plunge.

What do you think I should go with? I don't worry about maintenance. Believe me. I'll keep up with that. I'm just curious, what people think I should do. Just remember, I have pale skin, dark and thick eyebrows, and brown eyes. Hmm, which way should I go?

Hair Ideas...

For a long while now, I've wanted to cut my hair. Do something with it. Get an actual "style" going on. Part of that, is I'm looking for some change. For a little fun. Something different. More "grown up." You know what I mean?

Most of the time, Manders cuts and styles my hair. But now that we're a few thousand miles apart, it less and less often. We're usually trying to get my hair cut, right before a show. When it needs to be long enough, for the hairstyles, that I need for the shows. Which is not what I want for my "every day hair."

Then when we're not around each other, I just go with this guy. When he gets his hair cut, so do I. At this cute little barber shop. Definitely not a place, to go for a new style. Just a trim.

To be honest, I've got some rather annoying hair. "Chia pet hair." I've never really liked it. But in the last few years, I've grown to embrace my hair. My dark brown hair, that has tons of natural red highlights. The crazy hair, that just can't air dry. The same hair, that begs for a hair straightener. Something that I still haven't replaced...almost a year after mine went to hair straightener heaven!

Most days, I'm simple. A little hair product, a hair clip or 2, and I'm done. With those curly waves. That by the end of the day, end up, in a loose bun. On top of my head.

So I've been doing a little research. Hoping that when the gigs are all said and done, later this month, Manders can do something with my hair. Anything! I don't want to wear it in a bun, all summer long. And our next big round of gigs, isn't until late summer. My hair will grow back by then.

I've searched and searched, for some ideas. But the ones I'm leaning toward most, are here. What do you think?

I can go for it. And cut off all my hair like Jennifer Aniston. What a fresh feel for summer. :)

Or maybe just some texture like Kate Moss. Add some fringe. A little choppy layers. Something a little less formal. A lot more fun!

I could stick with longer locks. Just learn to really style them. With this style, I'd still have to cut off about half of my hair. Darn, why did I let it get so long? I've just been lazy about my hair...

Personally, I've never really had short hair. The texture of my hair, just would create a HUGE mess!!! Weeks before I graduated, I cut my hair. Shoulder length. Loved it! Then it grew back. So quickly! And I didn't bother much with it. The first summer that I lived in the desert, I cut it just above my shoulders. Loved it! Managed to keep it that short, until the Fall. When school started again.

But now, I'm itching for a change. Who knows, maybe I'll venture even further. And change the color. I just want something new. Fun. And a little more, well "put together." I'm telling you, living in the South, makes you realize these important things. Like having a real "personal style." And I so badly need one! ♥

Isn't It Lovely?

I'm funny about things. When I like something, I like it. I don't care what brand it is. Where you buy it. Or if it's endorsed by a celebrity. When I like it, I like it.

And that's just the way I feel about Lovely. Sarah Jessica Parker's first perfume. I was not a big fan of Sex and the City. The reality is, I didn't start watching it, until 2007. When it came out, late at night, on FOX. Now I just feel like it's over played on TV. But once in a while, I get in the mood to watch it. Or one of the movies. But back to the perfume!

This perfume, and me, we were best friends, from the beginning. I had initially got it as a gift. From a good friend. And I was hooked! I think I averaged 2 or 3 bottles a year! That's how much I liked it. I liked that the scent lingered on my scarves. But it was never too over powering.

A few years ago, I stopped wearing it. I don't know why. I just did. The crazy thing is, I had 2 and a half bottles of it. Sitting in my fridge. So it wouldn't go bad. :) The other day, I found an old scarf of mine. And it smelled just like Lovely. Immediately, I knew I had to find my perfume!

I think my love of this perfume, comes from my love of lavender, orchids, and nectarine. The Woods White Musk, helps the perfume to not be so floral-y and girly. It anchors the scent, but allows it to still be feminine. Let's just say, I've been wearing it every single day. And I'm more in love with Lovely with each passing day! The pink bottle just melts my heart!

Kate's Style

Don't you just LOVE Kate Middleton's style? I know I do! And whenever a picture pops up, she looks amazing. Simply amazing! Whether it's couture fashion, or something from a mainstream store.

Like this red coat. Which I'm in LOVE with! Hello! It's is just so ladylike. Classic. And gorgeous. The red color, is so rich and gorgeous! I'm going to be on the hunt for something similar. ♥

She Inspires Me

Do you have a favorite celebrity? One that you've followed for a long time. That you look up to because they're a good person. Not just a celebrity. You might really enjoy their style, or talent, but it's the person that really inspires you. For me, that person is Thalia.

I thoroughly think Thalia is a beautiful woman inside and out. Thalia has a "Heart of Gold." She gives us Latinas, someone to look up to. A woman who has stayed true to herself. Hasn't let the celebrity get to her head.

For years, I've followed Thalia. I watched her so many years ago, in Maria la del Barrio. I've listened to her music, for as long as I can remember. And when she came out with a clothing line, ya, I bought a few pieces. Her jewelry was really fun too!

I enjoy the fact that Thalia is just a natural person. She is who she is. If you've ever met her, you know what I mean. I've been extremely lucky. To sit down and get to talk to her. And she is just a very genuine soul.

I like that she's not afraid to get "Glamorous" for work. That she brings her Latina side out. And has fun with it. But she doesn't feel the need, to show all her goods. Like so many other celebrities.

Most of all, I like that Thalia is relatable. You feel like you might actually get to buy the shirt she wears. Because you generally like it. And she inspires so many mujueres. I LOVE hearing little girls talking about her. How they like that she wears t-shirts and jeans. I personally like that she is a more casual, easy going soul. Very much like our cultura. Yes, in a lot of ways, Thalia inspires me. Inspires me to take care of myself, do for others, and to be a happy person. That's what real role models should do.

Incredibly Sad

The news of Amy Winehouse's death, well it just made me sad. What a talented individual she was. A real singer. Not one of these "Manufactured Pop Stars" that we know of. But a real musical talent.

So many things seemed to be wrong in her life. So much trouble, and pain, seemed to envelope Amy. And it's incredibly sad, that no one could save her from it. We don't know what her cause of death is. And I'm not going to speculate anything here. I just wish, that for such a talented and gifted woman, that she would have had a good support team.

I first heard Amy's music, from a friend. This was before it ever was released in the USA. And I was mesmerized. There was just something about her voice. An old school voice. And I was sold. She was almost instantly, one of my favorite singers.

I never really followed the drama in Amy's life. I never bought the magazines, or searched the web. But you couldn't escape it. The drama, and her weaknesses, were splashed all over. On magazine covers, TV, radio, newspapers, and even the news. My heart broke for her.

And it still breaks for Amy. Because she had so much to share with the world. Her untimely death, just makes me sad. I hope that Amy can now find peace and happiness. Something she seemed to be looking for, her entire life. Rest in peace. ♥
